I have a real problem eating in the evening. Even as a little girls we would have a snack while watching tv in the evening and before we went to bed. As a 50 something adult women I still want my evening snacks. I'm trying to at least have healthier snacks but would like to get out of this habit. Any suggestions.

Save some calories for the snack.

Or, just don't do it. If you want to stop the habit, you need to make a new one.

I've always been and always will be a nighttime snacker. I've given up on fighting it. I just plan my day where I eat lighter/lower calorie things through breakfast and lunch, and have the bulk of my calories for a bigger dinner and snacks.

It doable. Just play around with your calories a bit.

I like my evening snack too, so I make sure I have enough calories left to fit my snacks in. See how many low calorie healthy snacks you can find and use those. You will enjoy researching and finding new things to fit the bill. Check out other peoples diaries you will see that most have treats or snacks, there is no need to deprive yourself. Good luck I'm sure you will find you can adjust to this.

Factor it in, I often have a small chocolate bar and a cup of tea before bed.

I have to have snacks at night. I prelog my dinner and snacks before I go to the kitchen for dinner and my snacks. I know it is a mental thing, but if I do not have snacks after dinner I feel as if I am missing out on something. It also helps me not want to pig out on certain foods because I know I can have something that I like mostly every day.

I'm an emotional eater and usually crave the salty foods. I'm bloating. I'll get over it though and get back on track.

Hah, don't most of us go through that. I come from a family of snackers. My dad will eat popcorn, chips and cookies after dinner. Drives me nuts. If I really want a snack after dinner, I make myself wait for it, like a half hour or hour after dinner. A lot of the times it's long enough that I'm distracted with something else and forget, and then sometimes I'm going to bed and I still have a craving. Sometimes ignored, sometimes not.
