New Rowing Machine!

My Concept 2 Model D is set to arrive today!! I've been wanting a rower for a while. I was deciding between the WaterRower and Concept2 and with the opiions of other MFP'rs and others I settled on the Concept 2.

    Yay! Congrats!

    I'd love to have one at home. My gym is closed today because of snow so no rowing for me. If I'm still rowing seriously this time next year, I'm going to buy one.

    There are some great workouts on youtube and when I started exercising at home I got an app called daily workouts and it really got me to like working out at home. I progressed to Beachbody on demand that has some exercise for everyone. of course I have 100+lbs to lose so I do modify some exercises. I paid $99 for a year. bought some weights. Most are like yeah I'm not getting into that but..well I wish I hadn't wasted so much time..

    oh yeah I LOVE ROWING.I'm going to try simulating it with a band. I'd like to try the actual rowing in water..Maybe by May I'll be in good shape for it..It's hard work but great exercise

    All kidding aside, I do actually need to row. I have a race on Sunday and I'm going to have to miss one of my last two workouts. *Displeased*

    The C2 is the best! Be real careful to not overdo it and injure yourself when you start out. Once you get up to 30 minute daily sessions, it should be really beneficial. Good luck with it!

    Yeah, I just never could follow through at the gym. I would go for a few months then it would start to taper off. The bonus for me is that I actually work from home so now I will be able to alternate between the treadmill and rower. My son is an olympic lifter and trainer and always wants me to lift but I just don't get into that plus don't have the extra space. I feel I can get a well rounded regime going with the rower and TM / Outdoors.

    Great machine! I'm approaching 4 million meters. Thing is built like a tank.

    C2 site has tons of great info if you need it.

    Their forum is good, too. Admittedly a bit “for the experienced and hard core”, but still good. After you’re into it for a while, understand more about it and know the jargon better, the forum can be quite helpful. Aside from that, calling their 800 tel# and talking to their reps and trainers is also a Grade A help resource.

    Great machine. If you have access to some good coaching, that's a plus. Good technique gets you a better workout. Even quite a few trainers don't really know how to do it correctly. But the videos on the C2 web site are helpful in that regard.

    On-water is way more fun, though. ;)

    Nah. You've got this. A tiny bit of adrenaline the day of, that won't hurt anything, but panic is sub-optimal. :)

    Any physical prep that isn't done by around now, isn't going to help much, other than maybe sleep & nutrition. Got a solid race plan? Practiced it at lower intensity? Using an even splitting strategy, or something close? Got a good cox? ;)

    I have always wanted to start rowing because I heard it was an amazing full-body workout with low impact (to compensate for the treadmill), but I was always too scared to look like a total *kitten* on my first time.

    If the gym is empty-ish today and I see a trainer wandering about, I might ask for a demo :#

    No cox, unfortunately, but I had a trial run with my coach last week and ha e a solid plan. Some steady state today, maintenance calories, and then rest. Very exciting!

    Excellent! I'd suggest that you go to the Concept2 website and find the technique videos. Gym trainers aren't always clear on the details. Enjoy!

    Getting a Concept2 is not settling! :)

    You've got the the gold standard in rowers and should get many, many years of happy use from it. One of the less tangible things i really like about C2 is their on-line community, with the various challenges they put on and goodies they give away for hitting distance milestones (I've got a little ways to go to hit the 10,000,000m mark) it's easy to stay motivated and rowing is something you can do pretty much every day if you want to.

  • I bought a concept 2 last year. I row 7000 meters a day. Takes me over an hour after a month steady but I'll get faster.
