I have times that I eat. I don't really watch tv but I surf the web, so I consider it the same. Entertainment on the screen.
Anyway. I push my dinner until 7:30, drink tea between then and dessert which is 9:00. I plan for whatever I have at dessert time. There's no room for snacking in between.2 -
I have an aerobic step in front of my tv and do that instead of snacking.6

i eat sugar free jello with heavy whipping cream. or plain airpopped popcorn (measured to fit within calories for the day)
but usually i don't eat while watching t.v. because i watch t.v. in bed and i don't like crumbs in my covers!4 -
I march in place, or play phone games/casually browse Pinterest to keep my hands busy. I make sure to save a couple hundred calories to spend freely in the evenings or plan out my snacks ahead of time and at what time I will have them.1

I watch very little tv. It's like junk food for your idle brain.4

I do my nails. I also browse MFP on my phone.4

I have a treadmill, but the same idea. Doesn't work playing games, but for watching tv I may as well be walking than sitting on the couch.3 -
It's easier for me to watch without eating when I'm watching and using a cardio machine at the same time. But I'm usually using the cardio machine to burn some calories I just did eat or intend to eat next.2

I keep my hands busy. Tonight it was two glasses of Perrier water through a straw. I may also read, play chess, or sew.2

I just don't eat outside of meals. Use up all of your calories at dinner!2

watching a good movie/tv show excites my eating0

Find something else to do and work on changing the mental connection between TV and eating... once summer is over I'm going to start knitting or crocheting again, that's good to keep my hands busy so I'm not looking to eat out of boredom. While it's too hot to knit, I'm trying to stay busy sorting old photos on my computer, that's also good to keep me from mindless eating.2

Turn the TV off to eat. I do much, much better if I engage in mindful eating, where I take away all the other distractions. No phone, no internet, not TV while eating.
And since I am just getting back into things, thank you for reminding me of how much that helps!1 -

I think their problem is eating while watching TV, not watching TV while eating... so if they ate dinner and an hour later went in to watch some pretty serious law and order special victims unit, they would be bringing the chip bag with them
Yes, but if they tell themselves they have to turn off the TV to eat the chips, they are more likely to put the chip bag down.2 -

Take up a hobby, like knitting or scrapbooking; something to keep your hands busy.3

turn down the tv so that you can only hear it if u aren't crunching4

I have the same problem. I realized the other day that, I really want to watch tv when I eat. AND really I want to eat when I watch tv! lol1

It's just a bad habit you have to break.
I would suggest finding something else to do with your hands while you watch tv.

I know it sounds very lame but I like to do Sudoku or something that makes me focus or reading magazine, news on phone.
I've learned in this weight loss journey that multitasking is my best friend. When I workout, I listen to music and read subtitle on the news channel and pretty much am planning the day or thinking about something solid.
All food must be eaten at the kitchen table. If I really want a snack I go for a few bites of cheese and an apple with a lot of water/tea or air popped popcorn.0 -
I either fold laundry, use my mini elliptical, or check email/fb/etc. But I do often save 200 or so calories for a snack.0

TV is the devil! In the evening I like to keep up with my shows and the commericals of food are flooding for a reason, it's sad. I understand how food becomes an addiction. Watching TV can be tempting to eat.1

It got easier once I started keeping my hands busy.
My friends are quite happy too... lots and lots of home made sweaters, scarves and hats. Currently working on a lacy summer dress, knit using very very very fine cotton twine, meaning it's taking pretty much forever
I also tend to jog in place during the commercial (the time I would usually go to the kitchen and grab snacks) or jog in place in the kitchen while I'm waiting for the water to boil for my tea. Trust me... it's hard preparing snacks when you're moving up and down without pause.
All of this said, I have some calories ear-marked each day for the after dinner, I'm sitting in front of the TV snack.4 -
