Im allowed 1200 calories but haven't been using them. Is that why my weigh is barely coming off ?

How are you determining you're eating 1200 cals? Are you weighing all solids and measuring all liquids? Using appropriate/correct entries from the database?

Why have you not been eating more? 1200 is a minimum recommended for women(unless very short, older, sedentary) and it would be difficult to eat enough nutrients to keep your body functioning properly

what others said - are you weighing and measuring EVERYTHING?

can you open up your diary (settings>diary settings>radio button clicked to public)

Agree with the others about opening your diary, confirming that you are using a food scale for accuracy, and define "barely coming off" please.

Agree with this. Define "barely coming off".

You also state you're not using all of your 1200 calories. Is there a reason you're doing that purposely?

Hi , Ive only discovered MFP so Im just started charting. It gave me 1200 calories per day. For the past 40days. I've been just calorie counting & exercising. Ive lost 6 lbs - which to me seems very slow. Yes I weigh out my food . Im only starting out - its a lot to take in & control with 4 children & a busy life but im trying.

As someone who has lived months on 1200 calories NET, I find it difficult to imagine that ANYBODY is capable of being too full to eat more than 1200 calories. It is not a lot of food. I suspect you are eyeballing, measuring raw/logging cooked (or vice versa which ever), forgetting to count cooking oils, condiments, or veggies or choosing the wrong entries from the database. ....or...you've lost the logical amount of weight and are just not satisfied. It's slow, I know.

You are definitely not not losing weight due to not eating enough, that kind of starvation mode doesn't exist.

    Good luck with everything

6 pounds in 40 days is great! Healthy weight loss is 0.5-2 pounds a week so you are on track. Weight loss isn't linear. How far are you from a healthy weight?

It could be a number of things.
    1. unrealistic expectations: if you're relatively small now, then even at 1000-1200 weight loss will be slow.
    2. you may be eating more than you think - if you're not using a food scale, and not entering your own recipes this is probably the case
    3. you may just be impatient. This is kind of continued from #1 above. Such as if its been under 3-4 weeks then actual weight loss may be hidden by water weight fluctuation.

Give more info. What are your current stats? How much are you aiming to lose? How long have you been tracking? What have you actually lost? How accurately & honestly do you track your intake?

6 pounds in 40 days is a little over 1 pound a week. This is actually pretty good... Unless you have a huge amount of weight to lose then 1 pound a week is a great result.

6 lbs in 40 days is a good healthy loss. You're going to have to lower your expectations. Also, really strive to meet your calorie goal, don't eat under it. A goal is meant to be reached and surpassed, so don't sell yourself short on that. Otherwise it may backfire and you'll find yourself binging or have other adverse effects.
