Why does wearing different clothing but weighing at the same time impact the number on the scale.

Your clothes also have a weight, some are heavier than others. This is why some people prefer to weigh in naked because the weight of your clothes will vary daily.

Some clothing weighs more. My summer PJ's are light & short sleeved. But winter PJ's are a bit heavier. That's what I weigh in everyday......it's not worth anything to change clothes for a weigh in. I am comparing day 1 to day 2 to day 3 etc. I am looking for TRENDS. The scale is just one number and it fluctuates wildly. Perhaps you had a high sodium day, or you haven't pooped (TMI).....all of these things effect the scale.

It surely cannot be that much of an impact.

    I'd guess 2 to 5lbs.

A scale allows you to measure exactly how much impact it is. Weigh yourself clothed and then weigh yourself naked.

The difference is literally a measurement of the impact.

Try not to weigh with clothes on.

My PJs and a bra can add 0.5-1. If you're thinking an erroneous weigh in is due to clothing then either wear the same thing or nothing to weigh in. I weigh in naked every morning.

But as has been said, fluctuations are normal. Some people fluctuate within a couple of pounds, others 5-10. You have to try to view the numbers as small data points that make up a much broader picture.

    Is real?

I think jeans and a sweater weigh more than a nightshirt and a pair of panties...I think.

I never really thought my clothes weighed much. Then yesterday I weighed myself wearing just a tank top and undies, then right away I took them off and weighed again. The difference was 0.5 lbs. For JUST a tank top and undies.

Clothes actually make a real difference.
