Has the amount my fitness pal has given you been accurate for maintaining?

I have always used it. I don't do cardio so whenever I set MFP to maintenance, that's my TDEE.

Happy to report mine is a bit higher than estimated. As moderately active it gives me 2,000, but I'm really closer to 2200. 5-7" f, 150#

Same here. Pretty close, maybe short by 100 or so calories.

It seems to be pretty close.

Nope. MFP is way too low for me, but I don't assume that will generalize to others. Your own weight loss or maintenance experience is always a more accurate guide - calculators, including MFP's, are just a starting point.

I guess it also depends on how much lean muscle mass someone has
    Not at lot.
Muscle at rest is a very low calorie burner and not much greater than fat pound for pound - it's using your muscles that makes the real difference, activity and exercise.

    Lyle McDonald states c. 6 cals/per lb/per day for muscle tissue and c. 2 cals/per lb/per day for fat.

I think it has been a little low for me. It really just takes some trial and error to find your maintenance calories. But I think that mfp's goal is a good starting point. Just use that goal for about 4 weeks and then reevaluate. Then you can adjust up or down as needed.

Mine is higher than I thought based on MFP. I maintained for at least a month over the holidays. MFP has my maintenance at 1820 for lightly active, and 2080 for active. I was eating an average of 2050 calories over the period of time I was maintaining. That was higher than I had expected, since I would think I'm "lightly active" before planned exercise. I don't exactly have an 8-hr desk job, though, and I don't have an activity tracker at the moment figure it all out.
