Hey y'all. So my question is simple.

Should I invest in a food digital weight scale?

What scales are worth buying?

What are the pros/cons?

Is there a specific type to buy?

If anyone has any knowledge on this please comment.

Thanks in advance. :)

Yes ... get a food scale. I picked mine up for about $20 at Woollies. :)

    All pros ... no cons.

I use a weight scale. I think it's a must especially as you realize what portion size everything is. Obviously when I eat out I can't use one so I have to use the app but at home it's fairly easy. I bought the biggest loser one available at Kroger. I like it because it's simple and resets easily

That's exactly the one I'm looking at and now definitely going to buy. $20 at my grocery store. Thanks a bunch ;)

Not only do I use mine to weigh my food so I can get an accurate calorie count, I also use it for baking. I find it can be easier to weigh things like butter rather than trying to lop the correct amount off the end of the stick.

YES. I really dislike recipes that come in volume measurements actually :(

I typically put that volume on the scale and then calculate it using weight - takes a bit extra time, but I find it to be more accurate - you could also look at british cookbooks - most of them use weight not volume

Cancels out the weight of your dish.

So, you turn the scale on, put your dish on it, press tare and the scale will 0. Then you can add your food.

I tare my toast too. :)

Put the toast on the scale, make a note of the weight, press tare to 0 the scale ... and then add my 10 grams of nutella.

    Yes . . . what they said.
  • Weight scales are awesome. I love mine and I use it at every opportunity. It is more accurate then measuring cups and is quick to use. Also my baking improved by measuring the ingredients. Then my recipes are easyer to get a calorie estimate from. So I feel that scales are the best thing ever and is something every should have. It is a great investment for your health and kitchen.
