Im so pissed at myself.
Ive lost 3 and a half stone iver a year but the past 2 weeks ive put on a few pound
I have selective eating disorser and eat very little that is actually good for me. I seem to have lost my ability to limit my self and control my portions.
Ive been put on topiramate for migrain prevention and told it causes changes to appetite. I was previously on propanolol but refused to take any more after i found that increased my appetite.
Shall i give up the preventative medication and just take the perscribed asprin for migrains to elininate that risk.
I just need a boost to kick *kitten*

I'm not educated enough to address your ED but I would probably talk to your Dr before quitting your meds. There maybe other options available.3

Having an eating disorder is not good for you.... ever1

How long have u been on your meds?0

As far as I'm aware (I'm a nurse though not a dr) topiramates side effects are a decrease in appetite and weight lose. propranolol is a blood pressure med. do u have high bp? That's important to address.
do u think it's a mind set?
Do u seek help for yr eating disorder? That's alarming, I think u should consider it if not.
I don't think a few pounds is much to worry about. Good luck1 -

Oh really? Wow. I Had no idea it was used for that. Any 'lol' meds at my facility is primarily for high bp. But again I'm no dr. Thanks for clarifying that:-)

I was prescribed propranolol for migraines several years ago. I didn't take it long because I had side effect issues.0 -

Makes sense for migraines. I take sumatriptan for mine. Really good stuff

It doesn't do the same things though. It's a preventative, rather than abortive. I no longer take it and use maxalt when they do happen.0 -
Propranolol for anxiety is an off-label use in some countries, but here in the UK it's approved for that, and fairly standard.
I'm on it. It's amazing. I love it because it doesn't act directly on the brain - it just blocks the effect of adrenaline. It doesn't even reduce adrenaline levels - just blocks the reaction, so all the fight-or-flight symptoms like elevated heart rate, butterflies, sweaty palms, panicky thoughts, don't happen.
It's not that I don't have a fight-or-flight response, but the threshold is much higher, which if you're prone to anxiety, is fantastic. Just puts things back to where they are meant to be and gives you space to think.
Only problem I've had is it aggravates my reflux. I haven't had any noticeable appetite changes.
I can see how it might help with migraines, as they are influenced by both stress and changes in blood pressure, I believe.2 -
I would definitely talk to your doctor first before going off any prescribed medication. Have you told your general practitioner about the ED? Perhaps they can find another medication without unwanted side effects and it's effect on your ED0
