Wow I'm learning so much from you all, thank you all so much for taking the time to reply to me. Really helps massively! I always thought I should keep eye on sat fat and sugars but now I know just stay in my calories regardless what I eat is a real eye opener! I'm off to the shops today to get some bits and I'm going to have a look at dark chocolate and see how I go with that! All in moderation :) x

Thanku all for your replies, really helpful. If I add a choc to my calorie intake will I still lose weight? I know they are full of sugar and saturated fats. :|

I lost 30kg eating 1 serving of chocolate per day (on some days more, but those are usually the days I got stressed out at work). I make sure it's chocolate I actually like. I tried the whole 'eat dark chocolate' thing since it's supposed to be healthy. Tastes horrible. So I stick to the chocolate I like and just be happy with my losses.

During the work week, I usually walk to the gas station convenience shop (15 minute walk) and buy a single serving of one of my favorites. I try not to keep too much chocolate at home as I'm not yet really at the point I trust myself. So on Friday I'll buy 2 additional single servings for Saturday/Sunday. The second one is starting to survive until Sunday far more often.

I eat chocolate every day, usually at least a square of dark chocolate. I budget my calories for it. I've lost 93 pounds so far. So yes, you can eat chocolate and lose weight, as long as you're in a caloric deficit.

Have you tried avocado chocolate pudding? *2 large avocados - peeled, pitted, and cubed *1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder *1/2 cup brown sugar *1/3 cup milk *2 teaspoons vanilla extract *pinch of ground cinnamon (I also add about a half teaspoon of instant coffee granules for a richer flavor). Blend in a blender or food processor until smooth, chill for a bit, enjoy guilt-free chocolate pudding. Seriously tastes JUST LIKE "regular" chocolate pudding, no avocado taste at all

Curious what makes this "guilt free" as opposed to regular chocolate pudding, which doesn't cause me guilt at all. This actually sounds pretty calorie dense - avocado can really be a calorie bomb and is this for a single serving of pudding? So what makes this better than say, a single serve jello chocolate pudding (regular or sugar free)?

Sorry, should have mentioned this makes six servings. And if one uses Splenda or another -0- calorie sweetener, it'd cut down on the calories even more

Small amounts of chocolate. Just build it into your calories.

This. I love candy, so I simply lessen the amount when I go into a weight loss phase so that I can still enjoy myself

It is more nutritious than regular sugar free chocolate pudding. Healthy fats, fibre. It does taste great. It isn't lower calorie, but it has many more nutrients and a better macro profile if you care about that on a given day.

I don't know anything about the avocado stuff (although I have heard someone else bring it up before) but just butting in to say - why not the sugar free pudding?
    Because it's nasty disgusting, that's why! :s
I love pudding, so I thought I would save calories when i got started on my weight loss by buying the sugar free pudding. Tried the first one- absolutely disgusting. *gag*
Told my husband he could eat the rest of the 6 pack. Not sure if he did or threw it away, and I don't care. You couldn't pay me to eat any more of it.
If I want pudding now, I just leave room for the real thing!
    Butting back out now

Cocoa powder (good kind) hersheys is ok, almond coconut milk, tsp of honey either blend in a blender (doesn't mix well in cold liquid blending in works) or heat up milk then stir in cocao powder for a tasty hot chocolate for a little over 60 calories..Or look up paleo chocolate also yummy

That is how I feel about most sugar or fat free foods. Not worth the calorie savings. My dentist made a humorous comment about the dangers of sugar free gummy bears while drilling my teeth. Such a bad time to want to start laughing!

I eat a lot of chocolate. Lol I choose chocolate protein bars, chocolate covered almonds and I still eat my Hershey chocolate too. Just fit it into my calories.

I mix about 125-150 grams 2% Greek Yogurt (2% tastes waaaay better than nonfat for this) with 2 tablespoons (10g) Unsweetened Hershey's cocoa powder and a packet of stevia. Add a dash of water or milk or leave it thicker either way. Heaven!! I have it almost every night as dessert, so good and packs alot of protein too. I love to put fruit like frozen (microwaved first) cherries. Or strawberries! So good! And without all the fat and sweeteners cocoa powder is actually really good for you and has a little fiber to boot!

Some of the dark chocolate comments have me rolling my eyes.

Dark chocolate, to be lower in sugar, should be 70% cocoa content.

It is an acquired taste, to get used to real chocolate, not the chocolate that most in the US are used to, but once you go there, you will be hooked.

I eat chocolate daily....it fits in to my daily calories. Yes, some of it is everyday mini chocolate bars, other times it is European chocolate.

Bottomline, allow yourself to have a small portion and count it in to your daily calories.

My breakfast this morning: 1/2 cup quick oats, 1 tbsp cocoa, 1 tbsp wheat bran, 50g walnuts, 1 tsp brown sugar splenda, and some water. Microwaved it up and had with milk on top. Chocolate perfection - plus a nice jump on fiber for the day. :)

Enjoy some dark chocolate it has a ton of health benefits. You just need to make sure to buy the right kind. I enjoy
Ghirardelli's intense dark 86% cacao chocolate. A small square of that paired up with some raspberries or strawberries and you have a yummy, healthy fix to your chocolate craving.

Just look out for dutching when picking out a dark chocolate. Dutching is method used to process the raw cacao bean and affects the amount of flavanols in the end product. If your chocolate says “processed with alkali” on the nutrition label, then it’s going to have less flavanols.

flavanols are the substances that help lower blood pressure, improve vascular function, improve cognitive function , and even provides UV protection for our skin! Dark chocolate has a higher proportion of flavanols than milk chocolate. A higher percentage of cacao (cocoa) means a higher amount of flavanols.

So read those labels and stay away from anything that says “processed with alkali”
