    How do you know your metabolism is low? And since I just turned 40 don't blame it on age. There are plenty of us here who have been able to lose and age is typically not a factor.

    • Plug your stats into MFP
    • Set a sensible rate of loss - You could probably manage 2lb per week for a while but will need to reduce at you get closer to ideal weight
    • Weigh all your food and log it
    • Hit your calories as often as possible
    • Exercise if you enjoy it
    • Eat the foods you enjoy, don;t exclude anything you like, just learn to build those foods into your weekly calories
    • Take your time, don't rush - slow and steady seems the best way

    I'm 42...

    Put your stats into MFP along with your stated rate of loss goal...you will get a calorie target...eat and log (as accurately as possible) to hit that target. Do some exercise on a regular basis...you will get to eat more then.

    I really feel strongly that this is bad advice because we know nothing about Jeremy (the OP). We also are not his doctors and should not be making any type of diagnosis.

    Also, paleo, low carb, low sugar, high protein, or any other diet type(s), is not magic. Eating at a calorie deficit is required to lose weight. If you are losing weight without a calorie deficit, it's time for a doctor's visit because then something is seriously wrong.

    Jeremy, I encourage you to follow the advice given in other responses to plug your stats into MFP, or some other weight loss app, and start eating at a calorie deficit. Just make small changes at a time.

    As for metabolism slow down-I'm 55, and for years I thought I could not lose weight because my metabolism was slowing down, but it turned out to be....ahem :) ....I was eating more than I realized! In fact, I was eating enough to gain 30 pounds in five years. That's a lot of food.

    I'm rooting for you, Jeremy! You can lose the weight!

    The tricky part is be happy, enjoy it, have energy for the things you love. But sure it is simple to express CICO.
