Weird foot injury from jump lunges

Okay weirdest injury ever, turned my foot doing jumping lunges earlier when landing hard on my back foot slightly off, it hurt but was fine after a couple of minutes so carried on, burpies jump squats etc on a HIIT circuit and walked a mile home no symptoms no pain, not even an ache then 5 hours later sitting on the sofa, bam, excruciating pain. Wtaf. Had to call nhs non emergency for advice who basically said (after 20 minutes of symptom and background checks and talking to a nurse) have ibuprofen, elevate and if it's still bad go to A&E tomorrow morning. Has anyone had an injury that was asymptomatic till much later?

To be fair the ibuprofens taken the edge off but 30 minutes ago I could barely think. It's at the top and outside of my left foot and ankle.

I'm not looking for medical advice btw, I'll see a doctor if it persists, but I'm just curious if this is normal or anyone's had the same delayed reaction to a foot injury?

Edit: sorry if I've posted in the wrong part of the forum.

I can't think of a particular time, but a lot of people often don't notice how badly they're hurt until they're finished doing whatever activity they were participating in

That makes sense with the whole adrenalin flight or fight thing. My delay seems odd though as it was 5 hours after my class and I was happily pottering around the house making pancakes for shrove Tuesday (it didn't even feel sore) and sat on the sofa with my husband and it didn't hit until 10:20pm when it started aching until 10:50pm when I was in agony. It's midnight now and I still can't put weight on it and it's painful but the ibuprofens taken the edge off so I can hopefully sleep. :/ it's bizarre.

Ha maybe that's it! I've had DOMS before where it's not hit me till the following day, maybe this is just something like that just more accute.

That happened to me in high school. I jumped up to get the basketball and landed and my foot sort of hurt. Played another 2 quarters and it was a little sore. Drove home and couldn't walk an hour later. I'd broken the 5th metatarsal. I pulled a little chip out of it. Be sure to ice it today and see the doctor. I didn't need surgery. Did the same fracture on my other foot rolling it over 25 years later and got away with a walking boot after a few days of crutches. Heals in 6-8 weeks, if that's what you have.

Oh crikey what a nightmare for you and thanks for sharing, I did see info on metatarsal injuries (as it seems to be in that area) whilst trying to "Google diagnose" myself. Hopefully it's just a sprain, a break will be a nightmare for my exercise efforts and I've never fractured anything before. :/ fingers crossed.

Both times, with the chip fracture of the metatarsal (might have been called a Jones fracture) after a few days I was back working out, on my good foot. In the boot I even taught a cardio kickboxing class hopping around on my good leg and kicking (with no contact) with the broken foot. I was 44 then. I was in excellent shape both times. You'll be able to figure something out if needed. Let us know what it is.

Well this mornings a bit better I'm walking with a bit of a limp but I can at least walk on it which suggests it's not broken. Guess I must have trapped a nerve or torn a muscle that didn't register till much later.

I used to do kick boxing & muay thai often and would have similar after pains. I mean I am not talking about not noticing your toe broken with the adrenaline rush (lol fought a guy that had that, had to point it to him) but you get these after pains. I wouldn't really panic unless the pain persists which I doubt will.
A lot of us would feel those pains at night and sometimes they keep you up. Yours sound kind of similar. I mean could be a small damage to soft tissue or joint too. What kind of shoes are you using?

Pain at the top of the foot often indicates an ankle injury - if the pain persists after walking etc, either go to a doctor or start doing some exercises that will strengthen your ankles. Things like calf raises are really good, and take it easy!

This sounds about right it's a normal amount of pain today like you'd expect from a turned ankle, it was just the 0-60mph delayed pain that knocked me for 6 yesterday it was so bad I felt sick, like really bad toothache that gets your entire jaw. My trainers are Nike airs lots of cushioning but my laces were a bit loose tbf. With how it feels today I don't think it's serious. Thanks for the responses. X
