Most of what you lose in your first week is water.
Then you settle on a steady but declining loss, provided you stick to your allotted calories (consistently eat less than you burn).
You may want to revise your calorie goal. 1200 calories is the absolute lowest MFP lets you go and is meant for short, elderly, sedate women without much to lose. Undereating takes time to catch up with you, but it will.
There is no magic involved in the weight loss process, only math.
But consistently eating less than you burn is part mind game, part good habits, part practical solutions, part realistic expectations, and lots and lots of patience.
The realization that weight loss isn't that difficult after all, can feel a lot like magic.4 -
Thanks for ur reply.so that is the water weight that went off..i think i'll stay with 1200 calories as i m so fed up of that extra weight that i carry all the tym...i just love carbs..and i went on keto and the day i came off that diet all the weight came back gradually...in this diet at least i can eat wat i love in limited portions of course...so i feel i can stick to it..so now if i stick to 1200 calories wat should i expect in the coming week? Is it really that simple to loose weight?i went on keto, i went on atkins, joined gym,did yoga, did wat not ...but never ever thought like fueling the body properly...this time i m taking multivitamins, iron, calcium, omega 3 caps plus eating as per mfp...so sud i expect to loose weight successfully..am i on the right track?does this really work?please reply0

Yes, 1% per week is a good healthy loss if you have weight to lose, and it adds up over time.1

Sometimes i don't feel like doing exercise. is that ok? Is that going to adversely affect the weightloss? Or must i do that religiously every day?0
-
Diet will have more effect on weight loss than exercise. Exercise is important for health in general, but it's the food you eat (and amount of it) that will cause you to lose weight.
I strongly encourage you choose your calorie goal wisely--1200 is really low for most people. Can I ask how tall you are?1 -

MFP is set up so you lose weight without exercise. I wouldn't particularly do it every single day, but a few times a week should be sufficient enough depending on what your fitness goals are.1 -
Thank u malibu for your reply..quite heplful i must say...actually i do exercise but wen i don't do i feel guitly for not doing..same as wen i ate something yummy i felt guilty..0

Almost 2 weeks on MFP for me. Started out 59kg... I'm not overweight but need to increase my iron and reduce my cholesterol so this seemed a good way to be more mindful of what I eat. Ifeally I'd like to feel more comfy in my current clothes as they are a little tight in the waist and arms. I felt good at 55kg so I guess thats my goal.
Am 43, 5'2", and very sedentary to due having MS, depression, chronic insomnia, anaemia and laziness. Hoping the extra iron will help with the anaemia, depression and insomnia, and that should then raise my energy levels to combat the laziness. Can't do much about the MS

Only 0.8kg LOL
Hard to get an accurate weight though as I started iron supplements at the same time which makes my food take twice as long to pass through. Plus my scales were faulty and I hadn't realised until I was weighing flour for a bread dough recipe and it said the entire 1kg pack only weighed 500g... got new ones yesterday.0 -
Ok so may be u hv lost more than that..i m not much experienced here..so can't say much on that..i started with 65.5 and after one week on 1200 calories now at 63.1 and i hear that is much of water weight.i had been to keto also and went to 61 kgs quite easily...so i feel wen i'll go below 61 then i'll feel that the real progress is coming..and for that i think i sud hv patience.those 2 kgs came off really easily..now it's stuck to 63.1..lets see..just hopeful..0

Sounds like a great start!0

Yeah gr8 start i must say...but i know this is going to slow down ..that was much of water weight but i m happy that it went off0

I've got some other doubts as well.like wat r the nutrients that i sud aim at hitting the targets.as i understand till now is that i sud aim at reaching protien target.i try to do that very particularly.carbs and sugar anyways reach that levels without me trying hard to get there fiber goals i try to reach by adding flax seeds as i know it is going to help my hair and skin as well.but others hard to reach the goal...for potassium i take coconut water still the target is high to get there...i take multivitamins..so i need to know wat sud i aim at ?is it ok to target at the protien goals?0

Focus on calories, that's what matters most. Eating well can make it easier to hit your calorie goal (because you'll probably feel more full). Hitting your protein goal will most likely mean that you're eating well. Don't worry about the other nutrients. Trying to hit all kinds of goal will make it harder to do what you need to do. Potassium in particular is usually not on the labels so you'll most likely get in a lot more than you think. A varied diet (you know, different foods from all the food groups every day) takes care of that.
Don't start eating/buying lots of new (faddy) or particular/expensive stuff (like flax seeds, coconut water, multivitamins), it's not important. Instead, buy "normal food" - exactly what, depends on what you like and what you're going to make/cook/eat, but these things are traditional foods/ingredients in Western diets: fruit and vegetables, meat, fish and eggs, milk, cheese, yogurt and butter, olive and vegetable oils, sugar, salt and spices, rice, beans, oatmeal, wheat flour, pasta, bread, nuts and seeds.
Don't try to change everything at once, and don't bother changing what's already working. All suggestions are just that, not laws you have to follow. The only law you have to follow, is the first law of thermodynamics - "the total energy of an isolated system is constant; energy can be transformed from one form to another, but cannot be created or destroyed" - meaning, you have to have a calorie deficit to lose weight, but when you have a calorie deficit, you lose weight.1 -
Thanks thats a gr8 help..so i sud concentrate mostly on the calories.. gr8.want to share my new love yogurt smoothie...thats so yummy and fulfilling0
