My desire is too transition into becoming a Raw Vegan. Are there any who are using this app? If so any tips on how you are calculating your calories? Please help!

Don't pick the cooked database entries.

Weigh all food raw as well.

I eat mostly raw. It's not a rule with me, just a preference. Play around with the diary and food search app. if you type in Raw before your food and it should come up and then you can adjust # of servings and measurements in the drop down menus until you get to the amount you ate.

Feel free to take a look at my food diary if it helps. Welcome to MFP! Add me as a Friend if you like.

Why do you think they might not be okay?

Pasteurization probably. Which is why the raw vegan diet is flawed. Nothing wrong with eating more raw foods but cooked, pasteurized foods can still be nutrient dense.

Frozen fruit isn't pasteurized, is it?

I learned from a beer brewing class that frozen fruits often flash-pasteurized, if memory serves.

Yes, they are fine. In many cases, frozen can be better than raw because (unless you live on a farm that produces food 365 days a year) the raw food you get in the store is not picked ripe. It is picked prematurely and ripens on the truck. It's missing a LOT of nutrients. Frozen is plucked ripe and frozen instantly so it will be more nutritionally dense. Haven't you ever wondered why frozen berries are so sweet and raw ones are usually just tart and watery?

Not only is frozen fruit okay, it makes being raw WAY more affordable! Also, if you live in an area that is not so tropical, frozen fruit is much more convenient. If it is what you have available, then there is no reason not to have it!

Just curious because I've never researched raw diets. How does one get their protein?
