Why now?

What's your reason for losing weight now?
I'v tried most diets in the past and gave up. But now something is different. I'm in the zone. Can't explain why. I just am. This is it. I'm over a month in and I am so motivated. Pushing myself daily. I'm enjoying my food and the exercise is something I'd struggle not doing. 36 days and 1st 4lbs gone.
I'd love to hear your why ☺

something flipped in my head after i did an experiment...never switched off. No real aha moment or anything...2

I've never been happy overweight I just went about losing with fad diets never really knowing how to keep it off.
This time I know how to keep it off so it's all on me now.3 -
My reason for losing weight was always the same - I didn't like being overweight.
My reason for keeping it off was one I didn't find before I found MFP - I like to eat and move this way.2 -
My main reason is because I want to be healthy and look amazing naked.
Why now? That's hard to say. It does seem like a switch has been flipped.3 -
To keep from developing diabetes at the same age or earlier than my dad did (42)2

After having 2 babies, I deserve my body back but its not easy. Stubborn fat is STUBBORN.3

I didn't really set out to lose weight...I set out to correct a bunch of pretty bad health markers. Losing weight was a nice bi-product of living a healthier life in general.3

I was sort of becoming ready to address my weight. I'd always maintained overweight then a rough couple of years and medication hunger pushed me almost to a BMI of 36 and a threat from my GP to take me off the birth control that controls my acne. Acne wasn't the sole reason but that appointment flipped the switch. Started slowly losing without logging then a few months later decided to get really serious and started exercising too.
Initially I just wanted to fit into my old clothes. Then I found it all not that hard (relatively, it's never easy) and that I actually loved exercise much as I tried to deny it for a few years. So here am I am, about to be a healthy BMI for the first time in my life and with an actual naked me aesthetic goal I am working for.3 -
I was super fit and got a heart issue so didn't train for the entire of 2016. I found out it wasn't serious in Jan so decided to get back to my former self it's scary how easy it is to gain weight and how hard it is to lose it!2

Just quit two years of personal training, don't want to regain all the weight I lost. Plus, there's a lovely jacket that is slightly tight on me that I'd like to fit into.1

On 1st Jan, I weighed myself and got a shock. I was just shy of 200lbs (at 5ft 3 - not good!) and the heaviest I've ever been. It was also exactly a year until my 40th birthday, and, like the OP, something flipped in my brain.
So after years of half-hearted attempts to lose some weight - and a track record of bailing at the first stall on the scales - I'm finally taking it seriously and in for the long haul. I'm 22lbs down and definitely in the zone!5 -
Spring is around the corner time to get ready for bikini season! I actually started in 2014, wasn't expecting much, but lost more than I expected. Have gone on and off since then2

Wow! This is me! Heaviest weight ever Dec 31st. And same height. Will be 40 in September. Something flipped for me too. Just didn't want to be in that place anymore and ever again. Nice job on your loss! I'm almost 8 pounds down since 1/1. Hooray us!3 -
I realized that it wasn't a case of bad pictures or angles...that was what I looked like.
I lost 30 pounds in 4 months last spring, then maintained (well...gained 10 back) over the fall/winter and decided to take my time this time. I'm averaging a pound a week or so now and I am SO much happier and healthier than last spring.
And if I reach my goal by this summer- greatn and if not? Meh...there's no hurry, it will come eventually 'cause this is just how I live now.2 -
To address current and prevent future health issues. I want to look good and feel comfortable in my skin. More self respect and confidence. I want to be independent as long as I can. Why now? If I wait for the perfect time it might never come, or if I don't make time to care for myself I'll have to make time for diabetes and bypass surgery. No thanks!1

I watched an autopsy on an obese woman on tv! It's was gross. Don't want all that heart disease and liver malfunction and yellow fat layers hampering my health. That's it. Flicked a switch in me that is staying on. 25lbs down so far this year. 75lbs to go.3

While visiting my family for the holidays, I weighed in at over 200 pounds for the first time in my life. I pushed it out of my mind and kept on eating too much (hey! It was the holidays! <--- note the excuses I was already making).
Then I went for my yearly well-woman and found out I had a large fibroid tumor (18 cm) and need to have a hysterectomy (it's okay, I'm almost 45 and not planning to have kids so that uterus isn't doing anything except growing a tumor anyway!). I decided right then and there that the most important thing was to be healthier for the surgery, which is scheduled for summer. Obese women apparently have a longer recovery period and more complications.
I won't be able to lose all the weight by then, but with the progress I am making I will at least be out of the obese BMI and into the overweight BMI range. At a 1.5 pound-per-week weight loss, I should be at around 170 pounds by the surgery. And, I've really committed to walking a LOT more, which is perfect because that's the only exercise I can do post-surgery, but a lot of walking is supposedly the best way to recover quickly. I'm down 17 pounds so far and the focus on "being healthy" vs. "not being fat" has made a huge difference in my outlook.5 -
I am 46 years old and have spent the last 20 years obese. Enough is enough. My kids never saw me any way but fat and sedentary.1

I was sick of being sick and tired and wanted to lower my risk for heard disease.1

My doctor encouraged me to lose just 20 lbs before knee surgery. I ended up losing over 100 by the time I got on the table. Now I like being the smallest I have been as an adult and I like my wardrobe and I like being able to shop anywhere for clothes and I like not worrying about fitting into a seat and I like feeling better. If I have to be as old as I am, then I want to look good!2

Right now? Just to re-lose some stress pounds that I've gained in the past few months and to fit into new jeans that I recently bought. When I first started to lose weight 3 years ago, it was just because I hated feeling so big, I looked at myself and I was honest..."I'm not happy being this big." 3 years ago I was roughly 210//211 pounds, now I'm at 154//155...I recently gained about 8/9 pounds since September/October. I hope to be 135 before or during Summer.2

"Now" was December 2014.
Why then was because we were finally settled after several years of moving, travelling and being quite unsettled.
Being settled meant I had time to focus on losing the weight I'd gained during the unsettled years and to start training for my cycling events again.
I lost the weight in two sets of 16 weeks each in 2015 and got back into long distance cycling in 2016.1 -
I am sick of being sick, high bp, pcos etc I want my two girls to learn healthy food relationships. I had a bad break up recently and focusing on me is helping the grieving process.3

Back surgery leading to terrible back pain and losing weight will help take the pressure off. Nothing better to get you serious than a health issue! Though I wish I started before it got to this point lol2

Several things at once:
- doctor threatened to change my contraceptive pill and I'm used to this one, but shouldn't be on it if I'm obese and over 35
- an expensive life insurance quote because of being obese
- I injured my knee and realised how much more easily it would heal with less weight on it
All these, plus the fact that when I started logging again I realised I am actually happier when I log my food than when I don't, and hopefully I'll be able to make a go of it this time. I lost a stone and a half before and foolishly thought I could keep it off without counting. I wasn't ready.1 -
Because I moved away from home. Seriously though, I cannot count calories around my dad even with an overweight BMI (160lbs at 5'2") as he thinks I will become dangously obsessed and counting "isn't healthy." Once living on my own, I was able to take control.1

Because I discovered mfp and it's amazing!! Losing weight has never seem easier. It encourages me to exercise as well, I love seeing my results and being able to share my accomplishments. I wish I had this before.1

I got tired of listening to my own excuses and of the silly short sighted weight loss attempts I kept making. Im living out of the country for a year and not working so I have more time then ever before so I decided I wasn't going to waste this year. I was gonna make it count. Im down the first 32 lbs and have another 40 to go but I'm on my way at least!1
