Am I losing weight too fast?

I'm following a 1200 cal diet and have lost 6kg in 5 weeks..is that too much too soon?

I guess it depends on yr start weight and your height? What are yr goals and if 1200 calories is sustainable for u. 1200 calories wasn't enough for me, I want this to be a long term commitment, I chose, wen I first started, that I wanted to lose 1kg per week and mfp gave me 1200. I was hungry and cranky so I chose a less aggressive goal (still pretty aggressive) of 0.8kg per week and it gave me 1400 calories. This is working for me. Good luck:-)

How much are you losing per week now and what are your stats? It's common to have a higher loss in your first week or two, so it's hard to say with the little information you've given.

I have been doing this for 5 weeks. I was 67kg (5ft3) and am now 59kg. I find 1200 cal is working great at the mo..and i feel good and people keep saying how good i look. My goal is 53-55kg. what do i do when i get to that? up my calories a bit?

I'd ignore the loss your first couple weeks and focus on the rate now that you are in a rhythm.
I lost ~12 lbs my first couple weeks, it was mostly water weight and from increased fiber making me more empty in the gut ;) .

If you are now losing at the goal rate you set in the MFP tool, you are on target.

What weight loss per week did you put into MFP?
You said it's been 5 weeks, what have the last 2 or 3 weeks loss looked like?

Be patient and also be prepared for a slowdown, which would be temporary. Most lose a lot of water weight in the first weeks, then the body regulates itself and retains the proper amount of water. It generally means a week or two of no losses, even when doing nothing different.

If you are uncomfortable with your rate of loss, add in a few calories. Remember, you are retraining yourself how to eat for the rest of your life and, as much as the rapid loss is encouraging, you will not be eating this little forever. Also, you only have another 4-6 kg to lose so you really should be settling in at a loss of about 1/2-1/4 kg per week.
