FYI - You can eat cheese...

FYI to all the people saying they can't eat cheese.

I found that Sargento Baby Swiss only has 70 calories/ 35mg of sodium/ 5g of fat per slice.

    I also eat the Laughing Cow Light cheese wedges. It's really soft - like a dip - so I spread it on low-fat Ritz Crackers. Only 35 calories for the cheese...

    i eat cheese, almost every day *S*
    and i rarely look for low fat cheeses... (they usually just have more salt to make up for the lower fat anyway and sodium is more important to me than fat)

    i refuse to deny myself something i love (cheese) and figure if i am only going to have a little of it each day, it WILL be excellent cheese *L*

    btw... for those searching for low salt cheese?.... Tre Stelle Bocconcini (fresh mozzarella) has NO sodium! yay!!!

    I find a lot of people refuse to eat cheese because it's either high in sodium or high in calories. I personally find the wedges high in sodium. I stopped eating them awhile back. I'd rather have a higher calorie cheese/lower sodium
  • My nurse (who's watching my weight) said you should have 1 matchbox sized piece of cheese a week...and to think i used to go through a whole block in a week...

    Still haven't given it up, but it made me think I was going a bit overboard...

    I love cheese...POINT BLANK.

    There are all sorts of other things I can take out of my diet rather than cheese....So I have every intension to keep eating it.

    I'm not kidding. I regularly eat a half a block (4-6 oz) in a sitting. I probably eat about 24 oz of cheese or more a week. Freaking Wisconsin cheese is running through my veins. No wonder I'm fat.

    That is how I am too! I would rather not eat something than not be able to eat cheese! That would be tragic :sad:

    I never heard anyone say you cant have cheese. I eat cream cheese, cottage cheese, parmigiano cheese, cheddar cheese, laughing cow cheese, I love those cheese sticks only 60 calories. I just watch my fat and calories. I dont eat a lot of cheese but i am not giving it up.

    Here is the thing: that isn't cheese to me. I am a cheese snob, a cheese foodie, if you will. I LOVE gourmet cheese. I feel like laughing cow cheese and other low fat varieties have the tastiness level of Kraft cheese singles. So when you claim "you can have cheese" and then describe that- lies! lies! I say! I cannot have my extra sharp welsh cheddar, nor my creamy bleu cheese with just a hint of sweetness.

    This is my cheese rant, for true cheese lovers everywhere. Also, I still eat cheese- but in lower amounts.

    your body eliminate fat quite easily, cheese is fat, your body cant eliminate sugar unless you burn it , if not it stores it into fat.

    your real ennemy is sugar , not fat.

    Its not that you cant eat cheese its that its caloric value is so high for such a small morsel of edible lactose gold

    I love cheese. I approach this weight loss with the assumption that I'm going to eat what I love just watch the calories and the levels of fat sodium etc.

    I want to be able to maintain my eating habits after I lose all my weight - not gain it all back because I can finally eat what I want again. That would be why I have struggled so long trying to do this - I always tried to diet it away before.:laugh:

    And while we're at it - if you aren't eating cheese - have you checked your calcium levels lately. The osteoporsis factor is pretty high now and I know exercise helps with the bone strength but you still need calcium intake.

    That sounds overboard. Matchbox sized is about an ounce. Most cheeses are roughly 120 calories per ounce. Everyone can work cheese into their diets.

    I would give up just about any food before I give up cheese.

    I eat string cheese every day. I'm willing to take the calories for it :) I've cut out most carbs from my diet, so cheese is my solace now. String cheese is one of those things I could eat every day and not get sick of it! I've just limited myself to only having one at a time. haha

    Studies find that diary blocks absorbtion of fats too. Shelly is right about how low fat items often add more salt. Last night we tried the low fat version of our favorite bleu cheese dressing and it was terrible tasting it was so salty. However some cheeses are naturally lower fat such as feta and parmesan and I love part skim ricotta. I use part skim ricotta in my macaroni and cheese now. I use a custard base instead of a white sauce base for it anyway and you can use whole wheat pasta. So with less of the regular cheese, low fat milk, ricotta, an egg and adding spinach it is lower in calories and I haven't used the less tasy low fat cheeses.

    I did not say you shouldn't eat cheese
    I did not say I don't eat cheese, IN FACT I eat some sort of cheese everyday lol (cottage cheese, Swiss, provolone, Cheddar, Mozzarella, gourmet cheeses)

    I'm simply saying you CAN eat cheese if you want to eat it. There are cheeses out there that are low in calorie, sodium and fat...example the Baby Swiss from Sargento. I'm just kinda tired of seeing "I can't eat cheese it's high in calories" or sodium.

    I eat Laughing Cow occasionally! Cheese is so good, but it doesn't really fill me up a lot, so I've cut back on it.
