I'm not sure how to take my gym's policy.

If you're in a public place anyone can photograph or video you. The bathrooms and locker rooms are the only exception.

I see it in the news all the time. Pictures/video of strangers to shame or objectify. Today was bodybuilder Diana Andrews for posting a photo of a woman on a treadmill.

https://thesun.co.uk/news/3081987/bodybuilder-diana-andrews-slammed-for-bodyshaming-woman-at-the-gym-with-social-media-photos-mocking-her-love-handles/

I'm a bit creeped out..... What are your thoughts?

I think the person that posted it on social media is an *kitten*. I don't care if it's legal to video/photograph anyone in public but you should never use it to make fun of someone. Especially someone of her stature.

Idk if you are wanting our thoughts on the article, your gym's policy (which I am not quite sure what that is, you didn't elaborate) or if you want to know if it's ok to do what you want with random people's photos.

Such is life nowadays I guess and some people will always behave in poor taste as this woman taking the picture and posting did. Then rather than owning up to it trying to make it seem ok. what a vile human being. No wonder so many peole are afraid to get started and go to the gym when they see articles like these.

I think gyms should be judgment and camera free so people shouldn't have to worry about things like this happening.

I caught a guy at the gym taking pictures of people. Not sure what his intentions were, but I snapped a picture of him and said if he didn't delete the photos I would ensure he was publicly shamed for it.

I'm far from innocent, I've laughed at videos online of people doing weird things at the gym. I think most of us have.

My gym's policy is: If you're in a public place anyone can photograph or video you. The bathrooms and locker rooms are the only exception.

Ah gotcha. Totally misread it, it's been a long day. I thought you were just stating fact with that statement. I still stand by it may be legal but the bodybuilder is still an *kitten*.

It's not illegal to take pictures of someone in public. That's how paparazzi make their living. Is it a dick move? Yep. That's why she was blasted for it to the point of deleting all her social media accounts.

    I'm overthinking this today,

Some of it is knowing a large population of sex offenders are out on parole or served their time. If they want to join in on taking photos, Its all legal.

Whats sad is, how many surgeries has she(bodybuilder) had to try and make herself look more attractive. I am guessing more than a few.

My point being its so easy to make fun of people to try and make yourself look better.

And as far as any pic in any gym, Mine kicks you out for good if caught once. Even of yourself. I can live with that!

I tend to think of creepy more along the lines of someone taking pictures down women's shirts or exclusively of another person's genitals. Taking a picture/video of someone to make fun of them shows the quality of their character (once again, not totally innocent because I've laughed at these videos before). I personally wouldn't do it because I was the fat lady at the gym doing weird things once upon a time and now I'm a fit lady doing weird things sometimes.

Well sex offenders aren't going to abide by any law most likely so if there were one they wouldn't care. criminals are kinda like that.

I think it's more a moral compass peoloe have to employ is situations such as these. Its not cool to try to publicly body shame a person

They can do that at a grocery store or a restaurant too. I understand that many of us wear tighter clothes at the gym compared to the grocery store, but someone who wants to view another person as a sex object would still do that to if the person was wearing a huge coat and snow pants.

I've never used that machine. There are more effective ways of working those muscles that are far less perverted looking.

Good. She got what she deserved. I guess it was her turn to be shamed. (But really, she shamed herself and social media just pointed it out to her.)

The sex offender comment was a bit of sarcasm on my part. It also explains the creepy factor. I like to think the majority of us have good morals.

She knows it's wrong to do something like that. She also knows that it isn't illegal, and that it will generate controversy and exposure and therefore increased money as a social media influencer. I can't be bothered to lend my time and outrage to help a terrible person make money. Best response is to ignore.

That's not necessarily how it works. She deleted her social media. Dani Mathers did something similar recently and she got banned from gyms plus her sponsors dropped her. She's now also facing criminal charges thanks to the media response to her posting the picture.

In general I don't think you should take a photo of someone without asking, regardless of what kind of public place/situation they are in. I think it's kind of weird.

I don't think my gym has any rules against it. But it's a very small gym so I think if it became an issue they would ask the person to leave.

Actually, it's likely to hurt her monetarily...sponsors tend to drop you for highly negative media attention.

Ugh....I'm super self conscious about people watching me exercise and gymtimidation is very real.

That being said, I'd rather have love handles than a fake plastic/collagen filled ugly face.

As one of those fat people who go to the gym, I say let them take my picture and post it on social media. They have the evidence that I'm trying to fix the problem. By joking people like me what does that say about them?qqbwtaoba2oc.jpg
