I'm looking for some great apps for weight lifting

I'm basically doing a version of all pro beginners, with a few tweaks to address my tight hip flexors and an old fracture in my foot that flares up every once in awhile.

What kind of apps do people use to track weightlifting? A lot of the ones seems to make everything more complicated, or are too simple and just log individual exercises and weights, or won't let you backlog.

Basically I need to put in all my exercises and have an easy way to change the weights associated with them.

Thanks!

Hi. I recently downloaded Strong and liked it until I couldn't backlog a workout yesterday. I'm still learning about it so there may be a way to do it. If there is, I recommend that one.

I'm not sure if it's what you are looking for, but I love an app called FitNotes:

I just use an old fashioned notebook. I have a somewhat unusual program that my trainer gives me so apps are just a PITA...it's easier for me to stick his plan into a notebook and take notes on it as to the weight I used for a given movement or if I had any issues that stand out, etc. I work in 6 week cycles and then change 6 weeks and then change again, etc, etc...so it's easier to just have my notebook handy to see what I was doing when I previously ran the same cycle, etc.

Fitnotes is also my go-to app for tracking strength training.

Fitnotes seems the best so far.

I wonder why I can't just repeat exercises from workout to workout though. It appears that I have to enter in each exercise new again for each workout, with the reps and weight and everything.

@augustremulous Thanks. I guess it's not me then. Hmmm. So unlike with Strong - you can't save specific workout routines? That's disappointing because I had three saved workouts, and really liked the timer feature when you started each workout. I'll check out Fitnotes, too.

On FitNotes you can save workouts, but making changes is annoying.

So if I want to repeat the EXACT same workout, it's easy. But if I'm taking the same workout/set of exercises and varying it for each day of the week - for example, a heavy day where I lift to exhaustion, a medium day at 10% less, and a light day at 20% less, and for some exercises I do warm up sets of varying weights, and the folowing week I increase the number of reps, it's a bit hard to plan it ahead of time. I basically have to create each workout anew with each exercise and weight. I can't just copy paste every workout and edit details.

Choose "copy previous workout" to pick out the workout that is most similar to the one you're doing today. Select each exercise, adjust weights and reps as appropriate.

I used to use the "create new routine" function until I realised that the above method is less time consuming.

Do any of these apps allow you to put in your workout results after you've completed the workout?

Fitnotes allows you to enter your workouts before, during or after. You select the date and go crazy.

I find that fitnotes is not great at reflecting supersets, rest periods or tempo.

I too have used JEFIT to log AllPro. The programme is already entered by someone else, you don't have to build it yourself. Do a search for it.

To be honest though, I have reverted back to my note book. I like to be able to do side notes on any lift that is causing problems, or the reverse- if I am progressing particularly well. Haha.

There is a defunct AllPro group on MFP that, though no longer active, is a good read.

(I will edit to post the link below)

    Cheers, h.

I've tried a few listed here like Strong and Fitocracy but I always come back to my many-tabbed google sheets file that I use to track my weight, lifting progression, and template for the sheet I print out and mark as I go while working out. That works best for me but I could see that being cumbersome at a gym, I just have my rack and weights in my basement. In a pinch if I forget to print out a sheet, want to change things up, or sometimes when traveling for work I'll just use a steno pad.

I use the programs on BodySpace through bodybuilding.com but tracking the workouts is not user friendly.

I may have to look into some of these others.

    dont use copy workout feature

I save them in exercise groups, then apply all exercises to the day. I'll them change the reps on the fly.

I use AllPro Workout available from GooglePlay to track. Though I don't know if you can modify or add your own exercises to the app. Before that I used the AllPro excel spreadsheet.
