Net Calorie Question

Is it bad to only net 1066 calories after food and exercise at the end of the day? Calories are set to 1200 but I ate 1453 and exercised 387 calories. My BMR is 1240. (sorry if this is a dumb question but I am new to this).

    Two issues. 1) you should net at least 1200. 2) you goal shouldn't be to eat under your BMR

    As for today you're fine - but I wouldn't make an everyday thing of it. It is hard to get adequate nutrition when you eat below 1200.

    Its so hard to get my head around because technically I have eaten 1453 calories which is over my BMR and therefore adequate nutrition wise? If my body is burning anything how do I know it's from today's nutrients and not body fat that is already there ready to be burned?

    It will burn both - it has to. The point is that if you eat too little, it is burning a higher proportion of body fat and a lower proportion of today's food. If you keep that up, you will likely suffer from hunger/cravings and over time from nutritional deficiencies (as the higher activity will mean you need more of certain nutrients, especially protein).

    How are you measuring the exercise burn?

    Just quite often they are over inflated so working on that you have probably netted the 1200.
