That is how I described this website to my husband. I could hardly contain my excitement. Mostly because, unlike most people, I really love people. I even really love people I don't really like because they at least give me something to analyze.
I have struggled with my weight for...ever. I've gotten to weights in which I have felt relatively comfortable, but I would then feel paralyzed by the fact that I felt like I needed to lose ANOTHER 30 pounds. I have no great story or excuse for my heaviness. Genetics maybe, but mostly I eat too much candy. I struggled with bulimia for many years and while I have that under control, I still have "food issues" sometimes.
I really, really love food...and sometimes beverages (my profile photo is an accurate depiction). I'm one step ahead in that I don't eat fast food and I rarely eat fried foods. I do love eggs and cheese and butter and sugar. These things are okay in moderation, but I need to gain control. I hate "fake food." One of my biggest motivators is the fact that I have dreams of owning a sandwich shop. Must get eating under control before taking on such an adventure. Last, but not least, while my blood sugar is (shockingly) normal, my bad cholesterol is high and by good cholesterol is low. Although I've been overweight for a good portion of my life, this had never been an issue so it was a real wake up call.
I live in St. Pete Florida and would love to have some friends on here from any location, though it might be a good way for me to meet some peeps locally as well. Get in touch!

Its better than Facebook!!!! Everyone here is united in a common goal: Healthier Living.
I am a MFP addict. I love counting calories and logging exercise. My results have been great so far and a lot of that is attributed to the site and the knowledge I have gleaned here. The forum is a great place to meet people and get inspiration and encouragement as well as give it!
Best of luck in your journey!0 -
i describe as a healthy facebook0

Such an accurate description! Lol I agree, I love that fact that unlike other weight loss/fitness websites, there is a lot of interaction here and everyone is generally polite and willing to share/give advice. It's great and so far I've come on every day since I joined a couple of days ago. I think this will help me achieve my goals, rather than forget them.0

Thanks for all the replies! I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you. Love all the positive attitudes.

No Farmville
No posts about babies making big potty0 -
Welcome! I love it more than facebook because it has a happy outcome and keeps me motivated! Would love more friends too -- especially over 40!0

I didn't realize until I saw your post come up that there is a news feed, just like FB, cuz i just started. ooooh this is fan-freakin-tastic!
I have found people who know where I am coming from! I have always been the chubby friend, always active, but always a plus size. I am SO tired of people saying "you look fine! you're not overweight!" I have even come right out and said "that's right. i am OBESE. Unless I were a nearly 7 foot tall linebacker, 240 lbs. is NOT acceptable.
SO, here we go, crankin it up a notch. I am all fired up and I am hoping to keep stoked, with the help of my new MFP friends!0 -
I admit, I check this more than Facebook, too.
But this is only my first time ever actually browsing the forum! And hey, you're in St. Pete? I'm just outside of Tampa!

*This* is why I don't mind annoying people. Not only do I get to anazlyze them, they can also teach me a lot about MYSELF! I love them for that.
MFP is a great place. I spend more time on here than fb too. It's generally more positive and it doesn't have all those annoying game updates!0 -
Hi Everyone, I am new to this site and I am not realy sure how to use it. So I am looking for any help that you guys can give me. At one time I weighed close too 265 pounds, I had a lot of medical problems and had no choice but have gasric bypass in 2005. I lost around 135 pounds and I did really well with it until about 2 years ago when I had to have shoulder surgery and I started to gain my weight back. I really struggle with eating food that is bad for me. I would love to eat better but I am not sure how to put foods together and how to afford the food that is good for me. There are many foods that I don't like the taste of or how to fix them. I also am not sure how to stay motivated to eat well or to start an exercise program that will get me to my goal. So please help0

@Kimmi - Awesome! We'll have to meet up and go for a walk sometime!
@Jhall - Bummer about your surgery. I had a friend who just recently had gastric bypass and it was completely life changing for her. Surgery isn't for me, but I'm happy when it works out for people. I'll send you a "friend" request and I can share some recipes with you. I'm quite the cook, and I've grown accustomed to making things lower calorie.0 -
That'd be cool!
I love St. Pete, too!!
