Skipping HIIT

Is there such thing as a skipping HIIT workout? I was planning to do 20secs skipping fast then 30 secs rest and trying to do this for 15-20mins would this class as a HIIT workout?

Do it and kick *kitten*... I do 20 secs / 10 secs splits - 60 rounds and then you know who's boss. You'll burn blubber like a beast and have the body to show for it. HIIT jumping rope is awesome - do it, do it now

Pretty much anything done a high intensity for short durations with brief rest intervals in between could be considered HIIT, it's the intensity that matters.....2

Yes, what briansharpe said. Also check your heartrate during the workout. A good target would be above 85%1

Aerobic intervals - maybe. HIIT - no. Unless you can skip with some monstrously high intensity.
HIIT has been watered down and bastardized by the fitness industry, and most of the trendy workouts they call HIIT are no such thing. They're actually aerobic intervals. HIIT is working at maximal intensity for short durations - "maximal" as in you'd be unable to sustain the effort if you did it for much longer than short durations. An example would be all-out sprints for 20-30 seconds, as fast as you can possibly run. I can't see being able to take skipping to that level of intensity.4 -
Oh ok, I normally go running but haven't been able to get out in a while due to child care issues so I thought skipping might help keep my cardio levels up and help me burn some calories I want a quick workout with minimal equipment maybe skipping is not the way to go then0

I don't think that's what Anvil is saying. It's not HIIT, but it's still interval training that will get your heart rate up. Give it a go!2 -

There's no way in hell I'd be able to skip hard/fast enough to constitute HIIT! I do mine on a spin bike...2 -
You can absolutely interval train on a jump rope.

If you want to benefit your cardiovascular system, work mostly at an aerobic intensity, there's not much point for most people to try to improve their anaerobic system only.2 -
Ohhhh ok cool read that post with tired eyes, so it's not HIIT but interval training I get it now. I managed to last almost 9 mins doing the 20secs fast and 30 secs slow wow it was harder than I thought and I am sweating I enjoyed it so will defo do it again2

Be mindful of your surface, I've done it out in my yard on the stone and holy shinsplints. Something a little softer next time.2

I did the skipping on my lino flooring it was quite hard but I don't think it's as hard as concrete outside, sounds sore0
