What the *kitten*?!!

*kitten*
I've seen this pop up now in several threads and I have no idea where it came from or what exactly it means. I'm assuming it's a way to censor profanity, but is it a blanket for all swear words or specific ones? I guess I'm behind on this trend.

I believe it's what the moderators of the forum use to blank out swear words3

yeah its like bleeping out curse words on telly, when you see 'kitten' on here, its the same thing.0

The fun part is just accepting the *kitten* without figuring out what curse word got censored. Makes for fun reads.
I lost a *kitten* load of weight.
I really kicked *kitten* at the gym!
Paleo/low carb/IIFYM is a *kitten* type of diet.
Will squats make my *kitten* bigger?12 -

To express yourself, you have to abuse cats.6

After a while, I just type "*kitten*" and accept life. It's also fun to type *kittening* and "*kitten*'s" ("Oh, for *kitten*'s sake!)7

You need to change it up though. Maybe do a poll once every 3 months to see what word should be used.

Well, the one year anniversary is rolling around, so you never know what the mods will do next.9 -

At least they are much better than the looks you get for "Effing", which all seem to say "So sad and pitiable".

Is it possible to have different animals for different words? It would be like visiting a zoo every day.14

I know. I hear that from myself often.9 -
That's is MFP's way of keeping us in line. When I need to lace a comment with profanity I avoid the *kitten* filter and use my own replacements. For example, " What the *rainbow* is going on around here! These *unicorns* act like a bunch of *flowers* who need a foot in the *sunshine*!" Works for me!8
