I've been eating out DAILY for lunch., I could make healthier options but I tend not to and say I will " start tomorrow". I just hate eating at work I want to get away! What does everyone else do?

You can take your own food and eat it away from your desk. Do you have a lunch room? If you can't eat away from the building eat a quick lunch that you brought from home and then use the rest of your lunch time for a nice walk.6

I'm like you. I can't stand eating inside at work, especially competing for the microwave and a spot that doesn't filled with all sorts of different food smells.
I go out once or twice a week, or eat snacks at odd hours or skip. I eat so well in the evening and weekend that my loss can get slow (or delayed).
Snacks = hard boiled eggs, raw nuts, a couple toasts + cheese, etc.1 -

Tell yourself there is no tomorrow only today. Why put off til tomorrow what should be done today? Stop lying to yourself by saying you will do it tomorrow. Make a decision that today is the last tomorrow.
These are the things I tell myself now. I don't know what decisions I will make tomorrow but I can make a good choice now.
If you want to go out to lunch make a healthy choice for food. You can always bring lunch and eat at the park or eat at the mall and take a walk or go to a museum or do something active. Good luck!5 -
I eat out a LOT. Fortunately a lot of places around here put their calories on the menu, so I can pick something lower calorie, or save half for later.
It's expensive, though.1 -
I used to cook my food if I needed it cooked and go sit out in my car listening to music and/or read. Not the best but it got me out of a crowded break room of people wanting conversation when I didn't. If I wanted to avoid the break room altogether I would bring a Starbucks like bistro like box I would put together.0

Find a place to eat out that has something to eat within your calories. I have a few restaurants where I know I can stay on my diet. But..overall..they almost all have hidden calories and eating out stalls my weightloss.1

When I worked at an office I need the break from, I would take my packed lunch to a quiet little park a few blocks away and sit under a tree or something whimsical like that.2

I don't eat out for lunch. Period. I have not done so for at least 12 years. It's far cheaper and healthier too, for me to make my own lunch. Plus I like to work out at lunch so I eat at my desk later, and go to the gym, or walk outside, at lunch.3 -
I'm self employed and in the service business so I'm usually in my truck at lunch although I do get home once or twice a week. I pack my own lunch every day. I can a lot of my own soups/stews/chili so in the morning I preheat the thermos with boiling water, heat the food and it stays piping hot until well into the afternoon. I usually have room for a couple of other things like cans of sardines, nuts, fruits etc. so I just grab whatever suits me and take it with me. If I get hungry earlier than 12 I usually eat the smaller stuff first. If not I eat the hot stuff first and snack on the rest mid-afternoon. I enjoy my own food way more than any fast food.1

I ate at a favorite "home style" diner this week. I would usually order a bacon and jalapeno omelette with cheese, home fries and toast. (~ 1,000 calories!)
Instead, I ordered 3 scrambled eggs (no cheese), steamed vegetables, tomato slices, and whole-wheat toast (no butter). (~550 calories!)
When eating out, there are alternatives to ordering the menu items as they are! Just order a simple protein with few healthy sides from the ala carte menu.0 -
I pre-pack a lunch so there is no excuse to go out. Usually I go ahead and pack leftover dinner into containers so it' grab and go for hubs. For myself, I prefer picnic style snack type foods (boiled eggs, deli meat, fruit, sliced veggies, nuts) but that's because when I pack my lunch, I'm usually outside.
If I was still in an office setting, I would eat and then go on a walk or go eat at a park. If your office has a break room, you can eat and read a book for a mental break. Otherwise, yeah I agree with someone above- smaller snacks might be a good choice.0 -
Try to find a restaurant that either (a) only has healthy choices that fit into your calorie budget or (b) (more likely) has at least one or two yummy healthy choices that fit into your calorie budget that are foods you like enough to choose anyway.
My go-to "eating out" choice when I don't have a pile of calories available is a local restaurant that makes a from-scratch club sandwich that is very tasty and very easy to deconstruct into a good recipe-builder entry. I choose not to add cheese because, to me, that takes away from the yumminess of the turkey+bacon+tomato combo but YMMV on that. I take out the middle toast and feed it to my 17 month old - who is happy to oblige. Choose either soup of the day or Greek salad, dressing on the side and I'm pretty solidly in the 500 calorie ballpark for the whole meal.
Any restaurant that will lettuce wrap a burger for you may also be a good option (as long as you stay away from creamy dressings and don't pile on the cheese and bacon). I was very skeptical about lettuce replacing the bun, but it's surprisingly tasty. I use it as an excuse to be allowed fries. (200 calories less bread means I can have 200 calories of fries. Yes, I've weighed them at home to check that the kids' serving of fries comes in that low.) But you could just use it as a way to keep the calories down while having a tasty lunch that doesn't feel like "diet food". Let's face it, an ordinary hamburger bun is kind of blah anyway. (If we were talking ciabbata or fresh sourdough, I'd be a lot less willing to trade bun for fries.)
Or you could try more traditional "healthy" options. Just watch out for dressing on salads. Always get it on the side so you can control how much you eat.1 -
What do I do with things like that?
I kick myself in the butt and just say "No more eating out."
In my case it helped that we had a family economic downturn and eating out is no longer an option, period.0 -
I work for a very small company - only three of us in an office (we have a lot of outside sales people in different locations as well). The three of us in the office all sit down and eat lunch together - which is nice. I pack my lunch every day. It's usually Greek yogurt and fruit, or a Morningstar Faux Chicken pattie with water.1

I prep my lunches for the week on a Sunday. Have my lunch eaten in about 15 mins, then go out for a walk.0
-
I bring my lunch to work and sometimes will take it out to my car if the weather is nice. My husband works just down the road so we always have lunch together on Fridays. I come in early that day so I can have an hour with him (I normally just get the 30 min lunch break).0

This is exactly what I was going to say. I would pack a lunch and drive to the park, or just anywhere that I could be outside.1 -
I never eat out at lunch. I always bring my lunch with me. I can't afford to go out and buy lunch every day plus it is way healthier to pack my own lunch that I weighed out on my food scale and know the exact calories of. I agree with needing to get out though, so my co-worker and I always walk during our actual lunch break and I eat my food at my desk (while working) when we get back from our walk.

You could leave your debit/credit card and cash at home so you have no way of buying lunch. Then pack a tasty, homemade lunch for yourself every day.
Just think about how much money you could save!
I usually do a meal-prep on Sundays and I have enough lunches for the rest of the week. I also store some snacks in the work fridge like cheese sticks.2 -
I order the same thing at every place I eat at. I don’t even look at the menu. This is what I order.
Grilled chicken, with veggies, no potatoes. No sauce, just salt and pepper.
Every place has this ingredients and keeps me form stressing on what to order and losing the enjoyment of time out with friends and family.

I used to heat my lunch up (if needed) and then, like everyone else - go to my car and eat on nice days and walk the rest - if it's cold, I still sit in my car and maybe close my eyes for a bit or read. Now, I'm at a job where my lunch is paid also so I just nibble while working ... I tend to drink more water that way too0

I've been doing this more. Go out and order what you want. Get a to-go box with it, and immediately put half the food in the to-go box. Eat half for lunch at the restaurant. Eat the other half later in the week, or for supper.1

I bring my lunch 99% of the time. I eat with my colleagues cuz I like them. Sometimes we go out, but they always let me pick cuz they have seen me lose a lot of weight.
About 7 years ago, I had a colleague who had a boat moored in town. Every once in awhile in the summer, we would go to KFC and get a 3 piece dinner for lunch, head to the boat and go over to an island just a few minutes from shore. We would eat lunch, feed the ducks, and then motor back to shore and back to work. It was heavenly.1 -
Prep my lunches so I don't have the excuse. This morning I made myself make my lunch as I hadn't finished weighing out everything for the week. It's easily to fall into that loop of eating out. Such tasty fats and salts.0

I "brown bag" my breakfast, lunch, and snacks pretty much everyday for the past 4.5 years or so. I usually go for a ride or walk during my lunch break and then eat my actual lunch at my desk.
I used to eat out for lunch pretty much daily...and often breakfast as well. I think it was a pretty bad habit and contributed to my weight and health issues. It was one of the first things I addressed in my quest for health and fitness.0 -
i thought this was going in an entirely different direction. oh well.1

I stock my office kitchen with groceries every Monday and I eat at my desk. (my break is used to pick my daughter up from school) About 10 years ago I worked at a CPA office where we would order takeout almost everyday. That job was where I gained a ton of weight and had to join MFP. I'm perfectly content with my salads at my desk now.1
-
I generally bring leftovers or I buy the healthy choice steamers when they are on sale and buy like 5-6 of them to stash in the work freezer. And we have a lake in the middle of our office complex so I usually eat lunch at my desk and go for a walk on my breaks.0
