I started my journey about 7 weeks ago at 323 lbs, and am currently 290. I've been stuck there for almost two weeks with little fluctuation. I'm a 37 y/o male, 5'10". I've been watching my CICO, and with such ample to lose, am wondering why I've been at this "plateau." I understand that plateau's happen, but looking for some advice on what I should be doing differently. My diary is public. I'm getting a good amount of exercise. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Do you use a food scale to measure your food?

More than likely, you lost a bunch of water weight early as your body adjusted to your changes in diet/intake. It's pretty normal.

That initial rush is over, and now you're into the regular fat/weight loss phase, which is slow and most definitely NOT linear. You'll have weeks where you don't lose anything, you'll have weeks where you lose a lot (relatively speaking). This is also normal.

Keep your logging consistent and make a reasonable effort to be complete and accurate with it. Progress will happen, just be patient.

I have a food scale on order (arriving tomorrow) that I plan to use religiously and see if that helps shed. I exercise on elliptical/bike/stairclimber 5 days per week. The good thing is that I see changes visibly (face, loose clothing, extra belt notches, etc). I will keep the course and continue pushing forward!

That's the spirit! When I first started weighing and measuring everything properly, I was frankly rather shocked how much I was eating. I think it'll be a great tool for you on your journey. Best of luck!!

Keep doing what you're doing, some weeks are like that. I used to not lose for 3 weeks at a time then I got a whoosh on the scales.

One thing I didn't see here (forgive me if I didn't see it) is that you've lost 33lbs already, which is like 10% of your beginning weight --- Have you recalculated your caloric intake number?

If your daily calorie allowance here on MFP is the same today as it was for you the day you started, there may be a little there for you as well. (on the web, you can kinda "re-setup yourself here: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/account/my_goals and the phone apps are similar)

You've done GREAT things on your weight , and the changes in your body shape sound like even better changes are making themselves known.

You are fully on a good path; adding a food scale and the diligence to use it, and maybe having a second look at the calorie numbers that MFP calculated for your body 10% ago will certainly help you maintain your awesome momentum.

The food scale will definitely help, but remember, as you lose weight you should be re-rolling your calorie goals. Every 5 lbs I would re-run the wizard or re-calculate my goals, my goals/daily calories would go down a bit. Doesn't seem like much but if you don't re-adjust (MFP should adjust for you, but I never trusted it) you may hit a plateau where the calories you're eating are your actual maintenance level.

Thank you! I re-calculated 10-15 pounds ago, but will take the advice and run every 5lbs, weigh food, and keep on keepin' on!

    Increase your water intake.
    Increase your sleep.
    Increase protein.
    Increase fiber.
    Increase healthy fats.
Be religious about weighing & measuring your food. The adage is true, YOU CAN'T OUT-EXERCISE A BAD DIET.

Wishing you all the best. You've got this!

Definitely use that food scale. If you don't drink a lot of water, up your water intake. After using the scale for about a week if you are still at a plateau try changing up your workouts.

CONGRATS on the hard work thus far!

I drink anywhere from 80-120 oz of water per day. I'm adding swimming and resistance training into my workouts as well. The important thing is that even though the scale isn't changing much, many other things are changing.
