Problem area hips/booty.

Hi everyone! So since my 3rd child (who will be 4 in June) I have had a HARD time sizing down my hips and butt. I will lose weight everywhere else but am lucky to lose a half inch in my hips. I've always had a butt and don't mind it but my hips are wider than ever! 40inches and my waist is a 33 I think I look weird in tighter clothing bc it really shows the size difference. Anyone have any help with what exercise I should do to help? Should I continue to do heavy leg workouts,etc.? Thanks for any help.

A calorie deficit to lose fat and sometimes, it's just genetics.
I am bigger on bottom than on top and I have lost an inch from my chest and half an inch from my hips since the new year. I am already small. No matter what, my top half loses fat first.
My entire family is like that so there's not much we can do about it. Embrace your size and when you lose weight, you're still going to be the same shape, just smaller.

I went through the same thing and all I did was get down to a size 2 on top and 4 on the bottom but pretty much with the same inch difference from waist to hip.1 -
If part of the problem is loss of muscle tone around your middle due to getting stretched out, you might benefit from core exercises to tone it back up.
Otherwise, there's no way to spot reduce. You just have to lose fat overall until it starts coming off the parts where you want it to.3 -
I'm with you! 33 waist 45 hips! When I was bigger twice I was 39 waist 52 hips. When I lost I was 28 waist 42 hips but I hadn't lost everything I needed to and stopped. So in short it didn't get better at all.
That being said, at least we don't need celebrity waist trainer!1 -
Honestly, I've come to accept my derrière and hips as if is. I don't have any children, but I've always had a sizable hips and tush haha.
I've realized that doing more strength training and cardio helped make it more toned, but it doesn't decrease the size. So try the cardio/ strength training if you want to tone up. think surgery might be the only way to change things like make it smaller etc and I'm not going to gamble my life for esthetics.
I think the best advice I can give you is to try cardio and strength training to tone things up but acceptance might be the answer.
Some people actually get surgery to have a bigger tush and hips haha.0 -
I know what you mean, I have a booty too and the weight just goes off last there. You just need to keep on dieting and naybe do squats and butt exercises just to sculpt it a bit. The weight will eventually come off and you will have a nice hourglass shape every man turns to see0

I do the Brazil Butt Lift series from beach body it is a total body work out but it focuses mostly on the butt and legs its great0

Based on your waist/hip ratio (0.825) I would guess you'd want to shrink your waist more than your butt. Women should have close to a 0.7 waist/hip ratio. There is supposed to be a size difference!0

I used to have 29 inch waist and 44 inch hips at 5'4". So I feel you.
I just lost enough for it to even out. It looked good between 133-140. I lost my butt in the 120s. I'm 144ish now and a 27 inch waist with 40 inch hips. Still a big difference but I'm not as jiggly.1 -
I lose from my hips/thighs last - I think it's pretty common for women. Consistently sticking your deficit will eventually lead to the fat going from your bottom half.
I used to have an Australian size 14/16 bottom. I lost 25kgs and fit a size 6 bottom. I've since gained muscle, so have no hope of squeezing my bum and thighs (even lean) in to the same size pants, but I'm considerably heavier than my lowest weight and fit 8/10 pants. I started strength training when I first properly started losing weight and have continued since, including heavy legs 1-2 times a week.0 -
Thanks everyone. I think childbirth has just made them wider. I'm 5'7 weight 154-155 I still need to lose more. Hopefully they'll shrink a little. I do cardio=treadmill and weigh training. I eat around 1300 call a day when I focus. My husband love hips so I'm not that worried, just wanted to know if anyone with bigger hips had success shrinking them a bit haha. I still have a long road ahead so we shall see ☺0

I bet it sucks that your hips might never get slender enough to fit into your pre-pregnancy clothes, but I bet if you retain as much muscle as possible, you'll really like them! I'm 27" waist and 42" hips, and whenever nothing fits, I just remind myself that people actually have surgery to get this shape.2

I wish pregnancy made my butt and hips bigger! After my two kids, my excess is around my middle! You can do it! Just keep at it. I am trying to run lately to lose some body fat.1

Running itself won't burn body fat. Just keep eating in a deficit and the body fat will get lower.0 -
I am similarly proportioned (41" hips, 29" natural waist, 32" where my pants sit). Really it's not "weird". There are a lot of us. I tend to gravitate to tighter close because baggy covers that small waist and I just look as big as my shoulders and hips are.1

I won't comment on what the exact ideal ratio should be, but do agree that there should be a size difference, and here's some historical perspective:

You're lucky! Pregnancy took a good cup size or two from my boobs, streaked me with stretch marks, flattened my feet, frizzed my hair, reduced my patience and sanity....but did NOT give me a curvier tush.0

I'm 5'5" 125 pounds and have a 28" waist and 39" hips. My daughter's pick on me because they say that they stick out. I just reply "wait till you have kids and then come talk to me."0
