Is your goal weight exact

I am 3lbs from my goal weight and it is driving me nuts.

Am I being too rigid by wanting to get to an exact figure?

Is my body trying to tell me it is happy where it is?

I know my goal weight looks low - I am very short though LOL!

I haven't been in the best shape recently (food wise) but I did stop smoking 2 months ago.

I also don't exercise as much as I should - I know this and would be happy to weigh what I do now if I was a little more toned LOL!

Am I being too hard on myself? Should I try maintenence for a while?

(I am on 1220 cals, set to lose 0.5lbs per week)

Your body can fluctuate over 3lbs a day alone, so you might want to think about adjusting your goal so it's a range. For example, I have 150 listed as my goal, but ideally I'd like to be in the 140-150 range. It's a perfectly healthy range for my height and it gives some wiggle room since it's near impossible to maintain one set weight. Either way, it looks like you've done really well and should be proud of yourself. :)

Peronally, I think the weight isn't the important part, it's how you look and feel. Can you get into the clothes you want? Comfortably? Do you feel healthy, energized and happy? If so then what's 3lb? If not, then keep going.

Maybe stop worrying so much about the scale and start focusing on inches, since that seems to be what you are interested in losing at this point.

<---needs to take her own advice...

edited to add: CONGRATS on quitting smoking!!!! I quit in July '09 and it's the best decision I've made.

People get far too hung up on the scale. I've done it as well, so I'm not exempting myself here.

But unless you're going to walk around with your scale weight tattooed on your forehead, does it really matter? :flowerforyou:

I'd argue that it does not. You're better off basing your goal on how you feel, your overall health, whether it's realistic to maintain, etc.

I hear ya ... I've tried for months, years to get below the 140s, where I was pre-pregnancy and in my twenties, and though every now and again, I get a peek into the 130s, I never stay there, and head back up to low 140s .. truth be told my body would be happier at 150, it's a struggle to stay in the 140s .. I think our bodies have somewehre they like to be and beyond that it's a fight ... TBH for you, the only person who is going to know you've lost another 3pound is you , it won't notice in how you look and that's the maddest thing, in the big picture even 7 pounds is neither here nor there really and yet we obsess about it no end .... how mixed up are we, I think we need to listen to our bodies more ...... also, will we ever really be happy when you've lost your 3 pound will you think actually another couple is not going to hurt .. haha, I'm terrible, you get where you think you want to be thinking it's going to make you happy then low and behold we set another target ... we're crackers !!

People shouldn't be too obsessed with goal weights.

#1- If you start at 300 and your goal weight is 200, you may very well get to 200 and still need to lose weight or perhaps you might like the way you look at 210.

#2- When you are very overweight it's really hard to tell exactly how much you will need to lose in order to reach your goals. Some people are smaller framed and need to lose more, some are bigger framed and need to lose less, some people have more or less muscle mass which can affect the outcome.

"Moving Goals" are best. Set a goal and as you approach the goal re-evaluate and see if you need to set a knew goal.

Thanks - I do think that I am getting far too hung up on 'those last 3lbs' - I feel like unless I shift them then I have not properly completed what I set out to do?

(which is ironic as my initial GW was 117lbs but as I got close I decided to go back down to my 2006 weight - 112lbs - that was the last time I was truly body happy so technically I have already moved the goalposts?)

I may do something radical and ban myself from weighing for the next 2 weeks? Just to get out of the habit.

Sadly I was fine with just a weekly weigh in when I joined here and now I weigh every other day.

I feel like I am going backwards in some respects LOL!

Maybe you could up your calories by 200/day and that might help you drop those last lbs. But, like others have said, weight fluctuates so much that today you could be one weight, and tomorrow you're 5 lbs less. I think 112 is great for someone your height. I have always heard that women should weigh 100lbs for 5 feet, and 5lbs for every inch over 5 feet. So, if you are 5'5", you should weigh 125.

you pretty much answered your own question i you read your post again....you would be happy where you are if you were more toned....so make that your goal and then reassess the actual weight. maybe get your body fat tested and try to bring that down and it will take you away from the weight number...if you have more muscle and less fat the weight number is kinda beside the point. body fat is a much more accurate goal anyway and you know your body, so if you need more toning and it's bothering you and you're noticing it, work on that. 115 for 5'1" isnt a low goal weight....i'm 5' and my range is like 96-128 or something. but i would concentrate on what you feel is where your work is at :-) you're done a GREAT job, now just do the finishing details and make yourself stronger, so find new goals.
