How sore is too sore?

Just joined a gym 2 days ago. Went Monday and yesterday, today woke up feeling like a giant bruise so I skipped it. Feeling discouraged with myself, wondering if I shouldn't have skipped, how do you deal with soreness?

I'm no expert.. but what did you train? soreness effects everyone differently depending on how hard you train, form, etc. i always get sore the 2nd day after i lift.. I still go to the gym when sore, but i'm training a different body part. Stretching before and after also helps, foam rolling is even better. warm up before you workout as well. Just keep at it!

You move, or the next day it will be worse. Just go for a walk, or a relaxed swim etc, nothing intense.

Monday I did 7 miles total between the treadmill and an evening walk to enjoy the weather. Yesterday I did 3 miles on the treadmill and 3 different arm/chest machines. Maybe it's because I'm so out of shape it feels like its hitting me hard I don't know haha. My job has some moving/lifting and I was scared I would be really useless at work today if I went. Got to suck it up and go tomorrow!

I had a personal trainer for a month (free program through work, huzzah!) and she said I should feel sore for no more than 2 days, and if it went on longer then I worked out to hard. Granted, I did not lift of do weight raining, I was doing core training.

The second day after is always worse- you should definitely either go to the gym- or go for a walk and do some basic stretching after you've gotten some blood flowing.

Any time you do anything distinctly different from your regular routine you're going to be sore- the solution for this is to keep doing more of it. Stopping won't help.

I wouldn't go back and go HAM- but at least go back and do SOMETHING.

Get the blood back into the muscles. Don't give up it is way worth it with the workouts and mfp!

Once I get warmed up I'm usually fine, but I don't usually hit the same muscle groups back to back.

If I'm feeling so sore that I really don't think I can workout- then I do a nice quick walk for 3 or so miles. Get the blood pumping and work that lactic acid out of the muscles.

    And hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!!

Thanks everybody. If the weather stays nice I'll go for a walk tonight and definitely hit the gym tomorrow!

I'm very sore today after 4 days in a row of intense workouts. Body needs some rest so today I will go for a long walk or decent jog. The more I move around the more I loosen up and feel less sore.
