Maybe it is water, your muscle hold onto water when you start a new workout program.0

How are your measurements? you might be dropping inches but gaining because you are adding equal "volume" of muscle to the "volume" of fat lossed... Thus more pounds of muscle gain the fat lost so to speak0

Did you go back to eating normally after doing the HCG diet? Is so, the low cal diet of 500 cals would have slowed your metabolism and now even 1200 is higher than your maintenance calories.
The way to beat it is eat maintenance calories for a few weeks to re-set your metabolism, then go on a 500 cal deficit (maintenance - 500 calories) plan. You may gain a few pounds first, but will then lose in a healthy manner.0 -

This is what happens when you are on a ultra low cal diet (500 cals/day) then go back to eating somewhat normal. Her metabolism has been damaged from under-eating for too long.0 -
Believe me, I feel your pain! Hang in there... sooner or later the math will catch up with the metabolism (calories in < calories out = weight loss) and you'll be successful if you stay balanced. Don't give up!0

people you don't gain muscle that fast...it takes a year or so to put on 8-10 pounds of the stuff and that is if you are actually weight training. if you're gaining it could be due to water retention (where are you in your cycle) or if you have screwed up your metabolism with a radical diet it's gonna take some time to fix that. are you eating processed crap that has far from real food in it? that confuses your body too. you should read master your metabolism.....0

I didn't know she did the HCG diet, I agree that is why she's not losing. That is bad for your metabolism.0

You might just be gaining muscle mass. After all muscle weighs more than fat so you could be losing fat, but the amount of muscle you're gaining is still more than the amount of fat you're losing. I would wait it out a bit longer, if the weight gain is still persistent, than it might have something to do with your diet. You might not be eating enough. You could try spiking up your calorie intake for a couple days to see if that helps. I know when I'm at a plateau or start to gain weight as a result of working out, zigzagging my calories usually helps me get out of it.

Here's a website that might help.
Sorry my advice is a little vague, but weight loss works differently for everyone, so i'm not sure exactly what would work for you. Anyways, I hope I helped!0 -

If it's not water weight, then you have to be doing something wrong. For example, if you're eating out any time during the week, you're probably taking in an extra 800 calories. In addition, if you're not measuring your foods, you're definitely overeating. Any eating without logging probably has you overeating too. Weekend binge drinking will definitely add a lot of calories. High sodium meals will cause you to retain water.0 -

I only know as she told another member she lose 23 lbs in a short period of time on the HCG diet. No way to tell from the OP's posting, so she was not giving the community the whole story, before asking for advice.0 -
are you weight training also? muscle weighs more than fat...keep ur head up, ur probably just adding muscle. runners usually have strong muscular legs.0

A woman would be lucky to be able to gain a lb or 2 of muscle of muscle in a 2 months let alone a few weeks or days, so it is not muscle.0 -

You have much knowledge... I must form a cult around you! JK, That's a line from Gilmore Girls. I actually appreciate your wisdom. Thanks for sharing :happy:0 -
HCG? Man, counting calories like this shouldn't become a diet where you place a time limit on your weight-loss. This isn't a diet; it's a way of life that takes time, effort, and a whole lot of dedication. If you're in this for the long term, you can comfortably be inside your optimum BMI range, but only if you're dedicated, not obsessed, but dedicated to losing the weight, keeping it off, and learning a little something about nutrition and exercise in the process. HCG is fast weight-loss that causes a lot of ohs and ahs for a short period of time, but the weight returns with a vengeance. The majority of people don't learn anything from this diet. People that eat the recommended amount of calories that counting calorie websites suggest, will eventually find themselves within his or her optimum BMI range. Again, this takes time, but the fad diet mentality has to die first.0

Don't give up. You're building muscle and muscle weighs more that fat.0
