Is really 1 large shrimp boiled only contains 8 calories? Is it the head of shrimp is included on 8 calories or not?

Interesting question. How large is the large shrimp? I always have to measure my shrimp because calorie counts depend on the brand, how large "Large Shrimp" is, and recommended serving size of said Large Shrimp Brand.

Probably not. Most nutrition data sources only list information for the part that's consumed. So if a MFP entry for shrimp was from USDA or a package nutrition information panel, it's likely it was for the meat only, without shells or legs or the head.

ETA: If the MFP database entry doesn't include a weight, look for another one that does. If you're going for accuracy, weigh the shrimp you're going to eat.

Use a usda entry that is by the gram and weigh your shrimp. Large is very subjective

math - 4oz of shrimp (112g) contains about 22g of protein and 1g fat - so 97cal for that amount

Gonna have to weigh it and find a head-on number for it but they are relatively low cal. Great protein.

Are you going to eat the head?

    Gotta love amiebi heads fried.

Clean them and then weigh them prior to cooking. You will have a more accurate count.

Funny you should ask this. Just saw a "Good Eats" episode (host Alton Brown) the other night on shrimp. Shrimp should be sold by "count per pound" sizing, not loose labels such as "large" or "jumbo" or whatever (at least in the USA). Most of us would think the "21-26 size" as the typical or "large" shrimp as used in shrimp cocktails.

I just did a quick web search, and http://www.calorieking.com/foods/calories-in-shellfish-mollusks-shrimp-raw_f-ZmlkPTYyMzc5.html has 7 cals per "large" shrimp (and 30 cals in 4 "large" shrimp at 1 oz.).

USDA numbers are usually in grams of the food in question, e.g., 100 grams. You'll have to weigh to be comparable.

I wouldn't think the heads are included. I presume that, anyway, LOL!

    Good luck.
