I just had a ventral hernia repaired. Just wondering if I should put myself on maintenance until I'm moving around more. On OxyContin.

Maintenance may be wise. Extra energy to help with recovery.

    Get well soon!

Yes, eat at maintenance while you're recovering.

You might even want to eat at a small surplus so that your body has extra to help the healing process. Yes, you might gain a little in body fat but it will help you back on your feet quicker. If you eat to maintain you're eating to maintain a healthy body but your body is trying to repair damage. Take your carbs down a bit and up the protein.

Aim for vitamins, minerals, nutrients and protein, more than calories. Your body pulls those things to heal the wound.

The oxy will affect your metabolism and appetite. The thyroid and metabolic rate decrease will be quite obvious. Possible constipation.
Don't stress about weight gain. Like poster above said you need the nutrients from food for healing. Drink plenty of water due to the side effects of the oxy. Don't drink anything with caffeine in it. If you feel sick take a break from eating but don't neglect your nutrition.

In a similar position myself, just had surgery. I've been eating a little over maintenance because I figure the body needs more to repair the damage. I wouldn't worry too much about weight fluctuations while recovering, you can get back to it once you're all healed up and recovered

The most important thing to do is eat and let your body heal itself. If you have to go over maintenance do it the most important thing like I said is for your body to recover

I know taking Oxycontin and other opioids will affect your diet and also cause constipation. I had a double hip replacement and was on opioids for about a month. Was also on stool softeners and I had no appetite at all . Best thing to do is discuss things with your physician and follow what he says. Remember this is a long-term journey and not a quick Sprint the main thing is to totally get yourself healthy first and then go back to the weight loss process good luck and feel
