Do you ever follow a binge with a fast?

Usually I just get back to eating in a 500 calorie deficit, but I am just curious about what others do

I just try and log it, and then start the next day fresh!4

Tried that, backfired spectacularly and just led to more binging.18

The very rare day when I'm not hungry the next day, sure. But otherwise I just go back to my normal deficit.
I envy the people who 'are still so full from last night's dinner'.10 -
I just make sure to be extra committed to my calorie goal for the next several days.1

It's something that can become a vicious cycle. I do go back to my normal deficit often, but I am guilty of getting into binge/fast routines on occasion.0

Some people say that the best thing to do after you have a big meal is to wait until you are hungry again before you eat again. I see no reason why that shouldn't work with a binge as well. While it may not offset all of the extra calories, skipping meals until you are hungry again won't set you up for the regular binge/starve cycle because you don't allow yourself to get so hungry that you have trouble controlling your eating.3

I eat when im hungry the day after. Usually about 1 or 2pm. I struggle with binge eating though and am trying to get out of the cycle0

I don't binge anymore, I eat above my calorie allowance (new meantality) but I just hop back into it the next day. From experience over the short time I've been here, and from also reading forums, it won't hinder your process. Maybe a gain from water.2

I've tried to eat low after a binge and that just puts you in a bad severe restriction binge cycle. Just log the overage, accept it set you back 1 or 2 days (which isn't much in the grand scheme of things) and just start fresh the next day. Pay no mind to temporarily fluctuation in weight due to water and glycogen.0

If you have any hint of disordered thinking or a history of ED then fasting after a binge is a terrible idea.
If you have a good handle on your calorie intake and expenditure then reducing calories the following day(s) can be a way to reduce the damage.
Personally I would not fast but would look to reduce overall calories slightly to compensate.8 -
Usually I'll skip breakfast because I'm not really hungry the next morning anyway and then just get back on track. Sometimes I hit the gym or take a nice walk. Lately I have really been trying to tap into why I binge and self sabotage my weight loss efforts.2

A few times, after my eating had been out of control for several months, I have managed to break the pattern of overeating with a three day fast. When I fast it's a true, water only fast. It does wonders for me in several ways, it breaks the bad habits, it addresses my fear of hunger, it rests my mind from food choices and failures, it gives me a feeling of cleanliness, renewal and a fresh start.
After three days, I restart with a careful 1200 calorie diet of healthy foods.2 -

after a night out , lets say a party , I will wait 16hrs before my next meal. works for me0

I once ate an entire large package (maybe 3 dozen?) Golden Doublestuff Oreos over the course of a single day. No, I'm not proud of it and in fact at the time I was embarrassed for my MFP friends to see it. I logged it but not all that day. I logged a single serving each day in advance over the next however many days to account for the whole package. So, for the next week or so, my daily ration was short by one serving of cookies and I averaged out to my proper calorie budget over time.
It actually worked, but I haven't done it again and I won't. I think that demonstrated some messed up thinking about associating cookies with punishment. Since that time I never under eat (much less fast) or exercise for the purpose of "deserving" any kind of food or after the fact to offset it as if to punish myself.
So, no I do not fast after overeating.5 -
I had a binge a few weeks ago, and the next day I fasted. I actually found it to be a relief from calorie counting, weighing food, planning out what my meals and snacks were within my calorie limits etc. I know what triggered the binge, and its more uncomfortable emotions I am dealing with rather than feeling overly restricted with my diet though. So I am not sure if I will fast tomorrow or just get back to eating in my usual calorie deficit, or if maybe I should just eat in maintenance for the next few days and give myself a break from dieting. I am going to sleep on it as its 11pm here in Sydney, so night night mfp. Will check this thread when I wake up in the morning on my way to work.0

I can relate to this. Lunch today was 1800 calories, this was 90 minutes ago and I feel like I need a snack already.1 -
Nope no fast, if I don't start over with my better eating habits as soon as possible I'll spiral into a complete derail. I eat at my next healthy time, getting back on plan.0

What is a binge exactly?
I don't think I've ever had a "binge"...I've had days when I overeat for sure...party or BBQ or holiday or whatever...but I just go about my business afterwards.0 -
doing a rather low calorie day the day after a binge is an EXCELLENT tool to keep the binge from making an impact on your weight/diet/morale!0

My experience also. I'm much better at avoiding binge type behaviour these days but when I over indulge, I tend to shrug it off and eat normally (to plan) the next day.1 -
While I have never been a binger per se, I have eaten way over my calories plenty of times.
I am just as hungry the next day!0 -

For me a "binge" is when I eat compulsively, almost as if I can't control it...there are usually negative emtions attached to it...it's a little more than just eating a little too much3 -
I generally just try to keep tracking. I'm a tried-and-true foodie, and I kind of rode the holiday hedonism too long. MFP has helped me a lot and I've lost 3.5 lb in two weeks (my next weigh-in is Friday), but I love food. MFP is keeping me honest and yet I don't feel deprived, which is a big change compared to how I used to diet.
That said, binging isn't so much a problem for me but if I get ahold of something DELICIOUS I can get a little carried away. Or in this year's case, a LOT. Just make up for it the next day with veggies (a nice salad) and more water to replace, say, sodas or salty snacks. Balance is key, I've found.
I'm not familiar with fasting but I have done a liquid fast before. It does a good job to "reset" your system, but I wouldn't do it more than one day at a time.0 -
Use to be able to fast after a "binge day" but then got a job as a chef, I do try to control my eating more....not to well at the moment mind0

Problems can occur when this is punitive, and part of a disordered relationship with food, and a creation or continuation of a binge/restrict cycle.4
