Do you overthink weight loss?

I see so many people on here getting bogged down with the little details. As far as I am aware, and I AM aware, I have studied sports nutrition and human biology at length, calories in vs calories out are it as far as weight is concerned, and you need to watch your micronutrients for optimum bodily function (so eat real food, rather than junk). The rest is just over complicating a very simple equation. The diet industry is huge, and want you to BUY BUY BUY!

I get rather fed up with all this "Switch up your exercise!" "Protein shakes!" "weigh yourself every 5 minutes!" thing going on.

I use to go overthink weight loss..was seriously obsessed. I too studied nutrion and still was seriously obsessed..Now that I have decided not to sweat it..I began to lose weight weekly..being obsessed over weightloss causes stress and stress will hold onto the weight and even gain weight..Relax and just do the right thing...eat clean most days have one cheat day a week, drink plenty of water, and exercise regularly.

I totally overthink. So it's funny though that at the end of the day I don't REALLY care what everything says, as long as that calorie thing stays green, and I post a loss at the end of each week, I'm happy happy happy.

I eat right and exercise 4-6 days a week and still the weight does not budge. That's why I overthink it all. I am over it too!

I was absolutely obsessed, and now I obsess about exercise, and trying to beat goals, and the weight loss is a side effect of it. I am training for a run, so im constantly thinking about what my next runs goal is, and stuff like that. So, I feel that this is a healthier way to use that obsessive nature I have.

you are the true voice of reason. The diet industry does ALL it can to confuse people by marketing their dubious products, and this in turn confuses people who are easily seduced.

bottom line..there is no substitute for eating right and working out . the end result isn't a favourable scale reading, it is a healthier and fitter YOU.

    thanks again for highlighting this.

I have changed things to make better choices for my health issues not my vanity. I love gong to the gym it truly is the only me time I get and I treasure the music in my ears and the sweat on my brow. I get my best thinking done when I am working out. I set goals to meet if I dont then I keep trucking until I do. Obsession is not healthy and this is supposed to be healthy right?!

I completely agree with you! I am sick and tired of the advertising industry and all of their BS. Spot reducing, exercise fads, diet pills, acai berry, blah blah blah, I'm sick of hearing it all. KEEP IT SIMPLE!!!

I don't think she's saying not to log what you eat or how much you exercise..That's a good thing. I think her point is not to obsess about it..like it's the only thing on your mind all the time.

Precisely, obsession over anything can stress you out and that can keep you from dropping weight.

To log all foods and exercises on this type of website is an obsession in it's self as we eat from when we wake up to when we sleep.... That's why I said what I did. We eat all day, we exercise during so we log it... It's obsessive...
  • I have been calling it motivation but honestly it is more like obsession. I have not been this motivated to loose weight in years and generally when I decided I want to do something about my weight I turn to a pill that has NEVER worked for me. If only I had all the money back I have spent on diet gimics I could prob take one heck of a nice vacation. This time I am trying to do it the right way, eat better not exactly right because mentally I am not 100% there but making alot better choices than I was 6 months ago and cutting out soda's was a major achievement for myself. So I think i will still call it motivation instead of obsession!!!!

I use this site as a tool to make me 100% aware of what goes in and out of my body. I like having a visual aid. Also the fellowship of like minded individuals is always positive when you are trying to change things in any sense. My parents are thin, my fiance doesnt really care lol, my friends are thin, and I enjoy people who get the healthier life. That is not obsessive.

I am not overweight, so weight watchers are of no interest at all. My aims are fitness related, and weight maintenance.

OMG I overthink EVERYTHING! I over-analyze everything too.... its often a big problem because I end up obsessing over it.
