Hey guys ! I need help setting some goals. For some reason when someone sets a goal for me I feel more motivated to reach that goal because I want to make someone proud of me. And I'm terrible at setting realistic goals.

I am 21 years old I am 5'7 and I weigh 295 lbs.

Help me set some short term realistic goals ! Not only lose 2lbs a week but other things too!

Here is one that sounds easy but can take some time to work on. Try to drink alot of water. Cut out other drinks and focus on water! Add me if you would like!

So far nothing. I don't want to sign up for a gym until the end of June but for now I'm going to start by walking / jogging outside and doing home workouts

If you want to be realistic, I'd shift your short term goal down to 1lb a week and put your focus on building your meal planning skills and accurately tracking everything you eat. Think of it is learning proper technique and training before you try to run a triathlon.

It's much easier to ramp up your weight loss after you have a rhythm of eating right and managing your diet. Your stomach also won't complain as much if you reduce your calories-in in stages. I spent a couple weeks targeting -1lb a week, then increased it to -1.5 and finally -2lbs off. If I cut my calories to my current level at the start, I would have failed to stick to my goal (the last thing you want).

A good start builds your confidence for what will be a very long journey, it will likely take both of us over a year of dieting to get into our healthy weight range.

A trick with goals is to undershoot and under promise. Meaning make a goal that is not challenging, so that you're chances of not just meeting it, but exceeding it, are greater. Then you can build up.

But to be really honest, if goals aren't working for you.... don't have them. Just eat less and move more. At your weight it will just just a little bit of will power and I promise the pounds will start flying off. So for short term goals, start with, "I will stay within my MFP calorie level today" and over time those short successes will compound into a huge weight loss.
