I'm going to spend the next 12 weeks on a Ketogenic diet. This means I will be eating a High Fat, Low Carbohydrates ( HFLC) diet consistenting of mainly whole foods. I would love some help, support and commraderie along the way. There will probably be a little bit of commiseration and comedy thrown in as I haven't dieted in over a decade and I'm not looking forward to the potential negative side effects. Has any one out there done anything similar?

I didnt go heavy fat. I focused more on protein. Its def important to keep the carbs low. I felt awful doing it though. I ran it for about 2 months.
My 2c is just eat super clean for 2 weeks. You'll see better results.5 -
I would like to join. I just started a Ketogenic diet 4 days ago.7

Great, welcome! I hope we can help each other1

I will also like to join, restarting my keto weight loss journey0

-
There is a group for lo carb that is pretty active.3
-
I would like to join this group but I'm vegan. Does a group exist for that? Specifically one with delicious recipes that don't have me cooking tofu every other day lol2
-
I'm also on the Keto diet. Love it as well! Feel free to add me as a friend !1

Hi! Good luck to everyone! I've been doing keto for almost 3 weeks and lost 11 lbs! I'm loving it! The first few days were rough, not gonna lie but I love it now and have so much energy! Looking for a support group on here but new to my fitness pal and no idea where to look!? Anyone know of any groups?3

I am on what I call a very modified keto diet for health reasons. I call it modified because I am lactose intolerant. I can eat a small portion of cheese and the harder the cheese the better and can't eat too much fat. I had my gall bladder removed so fat is my fiber. There can easily be too much of a good thing. My diet is very strict and limited, but I have lost 65 lbs since Dec under my doctors supervision.3

I have been on low carb since January and have lost 18 pounds. It's a great diet. I stay under 20 carbs a day and have found the foods that I like and can eat. The first couple of weeks can be rough but once you push through, it gets easier. So much so that I believe that I could eat this way for life.2
-
I've been doing Keto for 6 weeks and I love it . I did get the keto flu and the rash but if it happens just push through it. It will be totally worth it . I feel 100 times better than before and I don't feel hungry anymore which is amazing !! I've lost 26lbs so far if I can do this way of eating and stick to it I know so many others can as well. Good luck on your journey1

My advice is to increase your electrolytes when you start. The "low-carb flu" is actually an electrolyte imbablnce - you lose a lot of sodium with water in the first week. You'll need 3000-5000 mg of sodium (or more) per day to avoid low electrolytes symptoms like fatigue, headaches, stomach and BM issues, muscles aches and spasms. There is 2300 mg of sodium in a teaspoon of table salt. Some also supplement magnesium and potassium too.
Try the Low Carber Daily MFP group for more support. Some are just starting and others have been doing it a few years. Some are keto and others are just LCHF, and some are vegan while others are carnivores. Lots of variety and experience.3 -
The Low Carber group can be found here: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/394-low-carber-daily-forum-the-lcd-group
Keto certainly isn't a good fit for everyone, but a lot of people thrive on it. I think it's worth trying out for a month to see if you like it.1 -
I just started Keto for the first time on Thursday! I would love to be a part of this to help hold me accountable and learn from eachother!!! Thanks!1
-
Please add me! I've been doing keto for 13 days and I'm down over 9 pounds. Feel great. My husband had done it since Jan 1st and has lost almost 40.3
-
I'm thinking of doing it with my husband-is it really hard??1
-
I started keto last Wednesday and I am looking for some friends here for a support. If you want pls add me to your list1
-
I really stress the electrolyte thing!! It can really be a lifestyle change, but people quit and don't feel good because of low electrolyte. Seriously guys, salt is your friend. You'll need to consume more than you would usually -- likely a good deal more.
But the WOE isn't hard at all ^^2 -

You probably felt terrible because protein is a crappy source for energy. Typically when cutting carbs, you want higher fat for energy. Its actually quite common with many bodybuilders following old brotein diets.
Op, good luck. As already stated, eat a lot of sodium. If you have any cramping look into increasing magnesium and potassium or even supplement.
The one negative, for why i dont do it, is i am a volume eater and keto does not allow for high volume.2 -
everyone else has covered what I would suggest in terms of electrolytes, joining the low carbers group, etc. I started keto in Nov '15. More recently I've shifted to LCHF (in maintenance; experimenting a bit with different carb levels) but keto/LCHF has been a great fit for me. It's not for everyone but like pp said I think if you keep an eye on electrolytes, have some good support, and get the hang of it, you can find out for sure if it's right for you.
(I did have some experience doing low carb/low fat/high protein previously. It worked for a while in that I lost my stubborn last 10 lbs of baby weight and reversed my prediabetes and high triglycerides, but having discovered LCHF, I wouldn't go back to that! I've been much happier on it and my digestive system likes it better, too. )0 -
I've been on my weightloss journey for over 3 years to get to this point. Lots of ups and downs and soul searching. Keto and intermittent fasting is what has eventually led to my 52kg weightloss. I'm no longer pre-diabetic, I'm no longer on antidepressants, I'm no longer controlled by food cravings, I no longer feel guilty about my food choices.
I suggest the book The Obesity Code by Dr Jason Fung to anyone who wants to learn the truth about our body and how it responds to food.
If you think keto is hard, choose your hard. Hard to practice a new lifestyle? Or hard to be unhealthy and overweight?
Take baby steps. Focus on changing one habit at a time. Practice that habit until it becomes normal. Then switch to a new habit. Create a new lifestyle that you enjoy or else it won't be a lifestyle you will enjoy living and it will be unmaintainable.0 -
Please join me in! I've been doing keto for 2 weeks and have dropped 5kg (roughly 10lbs) and I feel so good. Inflammation is right down and I'm eating so many greens, never hungry. I just love this way of eating.mcs10282017 wrote: »I would like to join this group but I'm vegan. Does a group exist for that? There are heaps of vegan keto recipes. I'm eating a tonne of it myself due to food allergies. I'm dairy and egg free. I've been eating vegan pesto, coconut cream smoothies, soups, keto muffins with biocheese, replacing egg with chia. It is so doable. Will be happy to share recipes with you0 -
Hey add me, I am in, my doc just put me on a meat and veggie diet, no fruit,no high carbs, no sugars I need some encouragement.0
-
Hey add me I'm pretty new with mfp! I've been doing keto since July of last year and I've lost about 45 pounds! It's nice to see a keto thread on here and I'm always looking for more keto buddies, I've recently stalled out so I'm getting a bit stricter with my diet. I'm trying to get down to a size 10/12 before I have to go wedding dress shopping. Feel free to ask questions or add me.1
-
I would like to join the group as well. I did a keto diet about a year ago with good results, improved energy, weight loss, but unfortunately fell off the wagon. I am back on now for 2 whole days:) and would like some support and good recipe sharing. Please add me if you like.1

Hello All,
I'm on keto and this is my 3rd day so far. Unfortunately, today was hard figuring out what to eat. My job gave us free food and there were sandwiches, pasta, that type of stuff. I took some salad and a sandwich, ate the sandwich without the bread, but was so hungry afterward. Tonight I plan on having leftover spicy curried cabbage, and curried chicken or just a shake after my workout at the gym. I am going to join LCDF group right now! Feel free to ad me.0 -
@kschorns Research! Is it sustainable to you? Long term? Could you remain consistent? I understand the factor of losing weight using the keto method, but please do your research and understand how to properly do it, why and what this "diet" was developed for and why it could/is beneficial for YOU. All it takes is a calorie deficit for weight loss, regardless of what type of foods you decide to eat. I like the keto diet, but I hate when things become all the "new way to lose weight" when this type of diet was first developed in the 1920's for children who had seizure disorders.

I've been Keto since Jan 1st. Anyone can add me.0
