So my fiance and I have been looking for a house since January. Pickin's have been pretty slim. Even the ones we find we never seem to agree on.

Well...we finally found a house! It is perfect! It has everything that we are looking for. Beautiful hard wood floors, freshly painted, remodeled kitchen and bathrooms, covered patio, large fenced in yard for the dog..it's perfect! We agreed last night to the terms and my agent was all set to draw up the lease...until...she looked over the disclosure and it states that there is know mold/mildew on the property!!! WHAT?!?!

I wanna cry now.

    Do you know why there is mold? Is it an ongoing moisture issue (run away) or something that can be cleaned up?

    There was no explanation on the mold/mildew disclosure form. My agent has reached out to the owner's agent for an explanation. He said that he thinks it's a paperwork error...not sure about that.

    This is a rental. Apparently though and inspection was done at some point if they had to disclose that there was mold/ mildew on the property.

    especially early in a marriage.

    Find a different crib.

    We had mold (and 95% humidity indoors) in our flat my first couple of years out of uni and the flat was newly refurbished and beautiful... Still hell to live in because of the mold. We were told to never keep furniture up against the walls and other ridiculous things like it was okay that it was like that. Believe me, you want to find a different house to rent. It's not worth getting sick all the time.

    Get a mold inspection, which is NOT a part of your normal home inspection. They should take air samples and search for the source of the mold. (I do this for a living) You can always specify that the current owners fix the damage as part of the contract. If they won't then run away. You don't want a continuing mold problem in your home.
