Exercise with back problems

Hi all, and apologies if something similar has been asked/answered before!

A few years ago, I tore a ligament in my lower back and while it did get better, I still have a lot of problems with sciatica (from regular swelling) and pain when sitting, standing or bending over.
I used to use dumbbells and kettlebells regularly, did dance workout classes etc, and I'd love to be able to do all that again, as without regular exercise I have piled weight on.
Does anyone have recommendations for exercises I can start out with that may be manageable with my back problems? Thank you for any advice you can give! :)

See a physical therapist. :) They'll be able to help better than we can.

Back problems suck. Right now I am battling the piriformis syndrome. Not even close to a torn ligament but damn it sucks. I still go to the gym when its manageable. My recommendation is to not give up. Do whatever you can somethings better than nothing. Honestly my whole program is designed to help me with my back problem. I want the problem 100% gone asap and Im gonna keep trying til its gone even if it takes forever.
