Mini frustration rant

I had stayed off the bathroom scale for the past week or so. I finally step on today and I'm 8lbs heavier (yes I know it could be water retention or something) and it has me upset.

Scale weight is a data point. I like data because it helps me understand things. That's why I weigh daily and track the trend in happy scale app.

I know how to log accurately but no, this week I haven't logged and have barely eaten (due to a death in the family).
    I'm going with water retention.

I'm sure it is, especially since ankles are bigger than usual (always happens when I retain water).

You don't gain 8 pounds in 1 week just from inaccurate logging. It may be a factor, but water retention is much more likely - particularly since she's recovering from child birth.

    ^This.

I was getting a bit too obsessive and this week has been a bad week for me.

I hope everything is okay with you. Stay away from the scale when you have puffy ankles, okay? Lol

I like your One Significant other.

Your body has been through eversuch a lot recently, both emotionally and physically, add to that the recent death and you are bound to have strange water retention etc happening.

Ignore the scale for a while and try to go on how you are feeling- I know, easier said than done.

I'm sorry to hear your ankles are swelling again. Does raising them and putting a cool pack on them help at all?

Have you got rid of the wound pac and been able to get out for walks?

On a brighter note- how is that little baby doing. You are going to have to give updates on the bottom of your posts.

    Cheers, h.

Let's see, 8 lbs of fat would be the result of about 28,000 extra calories.....

I'll put my wager on the water too. But, yeah, I can see how that number would still get a reaction, even if you know better.

I actually quickly lost 30 lbs in less than 2 weeks with the water weight. I had pre-eclampsia so I had blown up. Not nearly as bad now

What does chopping wood have to do with anything? :/

Do you ever give a serious reply? You might think it's cute, but it's not.

Do you feel better? Are clothes feeling less snug? Do you feel more confidence and accomplished by doing the healthier lifestyle?

Really, that is all that is important. The scale lies.

Don't be upset! It seems you've been going through a lot! That is just a number, don't get discouraged. Sounds as if you are educated enough to know that this will fluctuate back down. Take a deep breath and do something you enjoy today.

    Can I rant here too?
Cuz I've been around the same weight for 2 weeks now. And I'm getting to my frustrated point with it.
Happens all the time to me. 1-2 weeks steady and them bam, 3-4 lbs drop off over a couple of days.
    Happened at 261, 258, 255, 250, 247, 243 and now at 240.
Why can't the flippen weight just come off the same over time. Why does it have to play these games.

And no, I don't need any answer to this, just needed to rant and this seemed like a good place.

Absolutely!!! Rants can be really helpful for ones mental state.

I know, I weigh in every day (so sue me, I like to watch the fluctuations); this morning my scale was not working quite right and kept giving me numbers all over the map. I'm SO bummed and now I have to wait til tomorrow to find out where we're at. UGH.

Ugh. Mine was doing that a few weeks ago so I had to buy a new one. If would just keep changing numbers.

You just had a baby and you don't give yourself enough credit. I stayed away from the scale for a long time after the baby.

I know the feeling! I feel like I've been plateauing for months. But that's just because I'm on a small enough deficit that the number on the scale stays the same most of the time. I have to actually pull out the TrendWeight graph to prove to myself that I really am losing at the rate I should be.

Post-childbirth + an enormous amount of stress + probably not sleeping well (I'm guessing here, but I don't think I'm likely to be wrong) = your whole system is probably going haywire right now. Be kind to yourself and to your body. Try to make sure you're eating what you are able to eat, and get as much rest and recovery time as you can. Whatever the scale is doing right now isn't important.
