So I am confused about how how many grams of protein, carbs, fat, etc. That I should be aiming for? Can you please help me, I feel like there is so many different philosophies on what to eat...

I am 6'1, currently at 260lbs. I am not in a race to get to a goal weight, I just want to eat properly and with a 500-1000 calorie deficit (if that's safe) each day. I know if I do this my body will eventually find its proper weight over the coming years. Don't get me wrong, weight loss is my primary focus, but I want to do it "properly".

I am fairly active at work and am beginning to add resistance training to my life if that means any thing for my macro goals.

Thanks!

Before deciding on. Macros you first need to decide on how many calories you are going to consume everyday.
For that you need to calculate your BMR and TDEE which can be done for free under freebies section at http://getsetgo.fitness

Ones you know your daily calories requirement, plan your macros and source of your calories.
You can follow this rule to decide your protein fat and carbs break up

if your goal is to gain weight
Protein 0.8 - 1 grm per pound of body weight
Fat 20% - 30%% of your daily calories
Carbs the remaining calories to fulfill daily requirement.

    if you are cutting
Protein 1.1 - 1.3 grams per pound of body weight
Fat 15%-20% of your daily calories
Carbs the remaining calories to be fulfill daily requirement.
