A calorie deficit is all you need. Have you read the stickies at the top of these forums?

Babybear, you can do this! I struggled all my life until I started using this website. This site helps you to lose weight by ensuring that you are eating fewer calories than you are burning every day. This is how every successful diet works -- you eat at a calorie deficit. "Weight loss foods" do not work because they do not teach you how much to eat. Plug your stats into this site (height, weight, activity level (recommend "sedentary")), and set your goal to lose 1 lb per week. The site will provide you with a daily calorie goal that, if you follow it strictly, WILL result in weight loss. You need to accurately track what you are eating. It is a bit of a transition when you start learning how to accurately measure how much you are eating, but once you get going and the pounds start coming off, it gets much easier! Eat whatever you want, but don't eat more calories than you are allowed.

I recommend filling up on foods that contain a lot of protein, fat, and fiber to help keep you satiated. Hit your protein goal every day. As you lose weight, you will also lose muscle, but protein will help spare muscle.

    You can do this!

    They're right ^^

Just eat less calories and stick with it.

BabyBear, I too have a young child with special needs at home. If you want direct message me if you want some moral support or strategies. It can be really hard, especially if you're lacking sleep and are depressed (easy when you're dealing with a disability).

My first piece of advise is to start off small with a smallish calorie deficit. Couple this with light exercise. Preferably exercise you can do in small 5-10 minute intervals when you have a couple of minutes to yourself. Hitting the gym is usually out of the question so you have to do the best with what you have. (squats, crunches, pushups, core/balance exercises, yoga poses etc...)
