Any way to combat late night munchies!
I give my ego free-range to eat so that I can continue to work late into the night to meet deadlines.
I want to stop but can't think what alternatives to use ....any advice please.

Hot drinks, herbal tea, hot lemon water etc. And willpower!1
-
I manage it some nights but not others. On nights where I am actually hungry while working I have some peanut butter on toast.1
-
Go to bed.2
-
Thanks, certainly worth a try. Looks like I'll be visiting the shops. Let's hope I don't come across any cakes along the way ....or any other ...eatables!
This willpower thing is a killer....0 -
I have to work to meet tight deadline that involve a lot of research. So normally work late/early into the night.
But your right I should go to bed, it's just v hard to get everything done in the few hours at work. I am particularly worried as I have a v dense project coming my way that is likely to last till autumn. So I'm trying to find ways to adjust or stop myself from putting on more weight.0 -
Save calories for the evening. Air popped popcorn is fairly low calorie, really filling, high volume, and takes a while eat.
I have better luck working with my tendencies than fighting against them. if your tendency is to munch at night, a few small changes and choices can make your tendency to do that then work towards your goals instead of derail you.4 -
*errors in earlier post.
Free rein! Not range.0 -
Good suggestion Lourdesong, will try saving the calories till the evening.1

+1. I LOVE eating at night ( and a drink or four). I bank those Cala during the day as much as possible.
I also try and drink a lot of water.2 -

I always pre-plan a night snack. Keeps me on track and gives me something to look forward too.2 -
If you are at home, just clean your teeth! No food ever tastes nice after cleaning your teeth or low calorie veg like carrot or cucumbers with houmus or even an ice pop... hardly any calories! Hope that helps!3

air popped popcorn or lately it has been 1/2c of vanilla halo top w/a good amount of berries.1

It's not possible to eat only a 1/2 cup of Halo Top!!2 -
Late night snacking is my problem too, I did end up just saving calories for my night time snacking... it def helped That and a few changes to "what" I was eating...2
-
This is my biggest problem! I can eat healthy all day but then at night I just cant stop and snack on everything.1
-
For dessert after dinner, eat a protein-filled snack so that your body feels fuller, longer. Greek yogurt w/ dark chocolate chips, protein bar (I HIGHLY recommend Optimum Nutrition's Cake Bites), etc.2
-
It's a natural consequence of staying up later and burning more calories. All about that protein at bedtime.1

The worse thing is I discovered a new cheese cake in Waitrose and Ive convinced myself That i buy it for others, except its not really. Having food lying around that's yummy is difficult.
"Doesn't lie around for long"!0 -
An apple. They say if you are hungry and want an apple, eat. If you think nah. Don't eat it or anything -You're not really hungry. You're just bored.2

Same way!! If there is bad food in the house I will eat it... My husband makes fun of me that when I'm on a "diet" the whole house is on a diet too lol!!1 -
Other-halves are brilliant they say it how it is!
I know it's boredom eating. Like I said I bribe my ego and use food as a reward! I know that's bad. But convince myself if I get the work done I'll have something that I know I shouldn't.0 -
I feel women are more emotional eaters...?
Men are lucky they have lots of the hormone 'Testosterone', not only do the lose 2lb approx for every 1lb a woman loses! But 'Testosterone' is linked to less empathic emotions. A recent study conducted by Dr P Bos at the University of Utrecht claims.

The only thing you can do is save calories for night time. I usually don't eat breakfast because if I don't have a snack before bed I can't sleep. You gotta play with your calories, meal sizes, and meal timing until you find what works for you.1 -

I'll drink a pellegrino. Or chew some gum.1
-
Haven't had chewing gum in yonks!
It's worth a try. Pellegrino with a twist of lemon !Hmmmmm ☺️it got to be better than my current addiction to Sicilian Lemonade.0 -
I remember liking chewing gum.
There was this really cool American brand and it was sort of spicy. And we used to dare each other to eat it!
Can't remember what it was called.0 -
If eating late is routine for you, then plan your meals ahead of time to fit it into your calorie goal. If you know your gunna have popcorn or a granola bar after hours, just plan for it... you can even try fasting through breakfast (because that is often a meal that's easiest to skip) and save those calories for later! But my biggest advice is to kick the habit! Start drinking lots of water/tea/decaf coffee, you could even chew gum!1

I found that my evening cravings reduced quite a bit after I rearranged the timing & macro composition of my eating during the day. The details of how to change it are likely to differ for everyone, but for me, increasing the relative size of breakfast and making sure it had plenty of protein were changes that helped with keeping the night cravings to a reasonable level. That got me to the point where something low calorie (like home-popped popcorn or a couple of microwave puppodums or a reduced fat string cheese), plus a hot herb tea, would keep things satisfying.1
-
I would like to break the habit. I realise it's no good for me. I'm definitely an emotional eater.0
