That 1 thing you cant give up?

Does anyone have that one thing that they completely just cave on. Do you still have did you find a substitute, how did/do you handle it? My problem is that one thing I am eating well drinking like its a life line. It is so wrong lol. I swear it is the cause of hindrance for weight loss. So why the he** so I continue to drink it! No idea just looking for your thoughts/advice.

If you're talking about not being able to give up alcohol despite knowing that it is sabotaging your progress, I think that is a different discussion than not wanting to give up a food item.
If alcohol really is your lifeline, it may be time to seek out some resources for help. This is a bigger problem than a message board can address.16 -

Nnnnnooooooooo! I am not going to say I understand all the science however there are plenty of independant sources that are convinced diet soda is not good for you. Check out some of the forums on MFP for starters and you can get links to sites that are not just hearsay.2 -
you assumed and went right to damn near recommending AAA. a Glass of wine a night could derail you if your eating right at your calorie level food wise.6

weight loss is about calorie deficit. you can do it eating twinkies all day. thats not healthy either. thats not the point here.4 -

Those sources that are convinced may be independent, but they are not reliable. There is no good reason to be fearful of diet soda.17 -

Check out the "if" in my post, it's there for a reason. One glass of wine per night isn't going to derail someone who accurately logs it and accounts for it in their calories. I frequently drank wine when I was losing weight.
My comments were for someone in the specific situation of knowing that alcohol is derailing them, having feelings of not being able to give it up, and regarding it as a "lifeline" but also as "wrong." If OP wants to clarify that it isn't her situation and she was using some playful hyperbole, I'm not going to second-guess her. But I was responding to specific words in her post. There's nothing wrong with the suggestion that sometimes we need resources and help with various life issues. It happens to a lot of us in life, it's not a bad thing.10 -
I'm not understanding what it is that you want to give up, or why you need to give it up. Is this particular drink putting you over your calorie goals? If so, telling us what it is would help us give you recommendations for substitutes. If it's not putting you over your calorie goals, why do you need to give it up?1

Coffee creamer. I do drink sugar free most of the time, but I make sure I'm super vigilant about tracking. Those little calories sure add up!!2

Lately...cookies. I dream chocolate chip cookies..The taste...the delicious chewy texture....the melting chocolate chips ....I have a problem LOL i never craved cookies before ever now they have been all i can think about for a month lol. I tried to buy a small box (bakery fresh because if im givig in im making the calories worth it, not pre boked ones where theres WAY to many not worth it) And i ate all 10 ....couldnt stop lol. Learned my lesson im trying to just avoid them2

WOW ok sorry did not mean to start this lol It is an iced coffee (now it sounds so silly wow) My problem is this iced coffee is over 350 calories 53 grams of crabs which is all sugar that is more than a snickers bar!!!! Now Im drinking 2 or 3 times a day which is NOT GOOD! It basically sabotages my day. I just cant figure out why when I got rid of it for so long did I go back to it knowing how bad it is.

If soda was the issue, a switch to diet version is fine.
Since that wasn't the issue, I'd cut down on the sugar slowly while you get used to it. But then iced coffee never appealed to me anyway. I drink black coffee.3 -

Yeah those super sugary Starbucks (and similar places) are really bad. If you must drink those types of drinks I'd recommend looking into sugar free syrups and milk alternatives. For example, my favorite drink at Starbucks is an Iced Coconut milk Mocha Macchiato (what a mouthful LOL). However, I swap out the white mocha sauce with sugar free mocha sauce which eliminates about 60 calories. I also started getting a small but adding an extra shot so it's the same amount of espresso as a medium and just the size difference saves me about another 70 calories. Simple things like that can greatly reduce the amount of calories and sugar while allowing you to still have your treat coffee.

Is it the caffeine that you can't give up? Or do you just like the taste of the iced coffee? I've been buying Iconic Protein- they have a coffee flavor, which compares to an iced coffee pretty well- good macros too- 20 grams of protein and only 8 carbs. There are also some pretty good protein powders that are coffee flavored mixed with a little almond milk, or even regular milk and some ice might be a good solution!
Also, if your into lattes, etc. (like I am) I just get a skinny version of the regular drink and usually the smallest size.0 -

There is nothing I couldn't give up if there were a need for me to give it up. The things I have avoided for weight loss were things I chose to avoid to make losing easier for me. Alcohol was not one of them. I my wine.1

I hate to say this but I can not stand anything diet. I do NOT like the aftertaste. Ive tried them all in hopes to find a replacement the best I can do is honey. The coffee drink is a pre packaged powder mix that I add to milk. Ive switched to 1% and no fat milk but I just need to stop it period. Soda a habit I stopped about 10 years ago or so. I might get some when we go out but Ill be lucky to drink a quarter of a glass lol. It is probably the sugar I am craving and need to just STOP! lol Just wondering if there where others that had anythign similar and looking for some success stories for motivation.1

When I do get iced coffee I typically go to Starbucks and order a Venti cold brew (yay caffeine) with 2 pumps mocha, 1 pump classic, splash of milk. Sometimes I make my own iced coffee in a french press so I can control what I add to it. Neither way is going to add up to 350 calories.1 -

The thing I can't give up is chocolate in general. I have tried abstaining because I thought it was causing me to gain weight. What was causing the weight gain was eating 2-3k calories of it a day, in addition to my regular food!
The problem with abstaining (for me) was that by telling myself I couldn't have it, I was tempted at every family gathering or birthday or almost every day at work and I was just miserable. The moment I got my hands on even a tiny piece of it, I'd over eat on it and then start buying it and crazy backsliding would ensue. I had to learn to eat the right amount to satisfy me, but not allow it to lead to binging.
I learned to incorporate it by only buying prepackaged pieces (single squares of dark mostly) and never to tell myself no. What I do now is just make it fit in my calories, and I have to log each piece separately before I eat it. That way I'm mindful of what I have, and can usually stop myself before I go too overboard.
Unfortunately, there is one thing I found I have to keep banned. Bags of chocolates covered almonds & cashews. Just tried to re-incorporate those last week, and finished an entire bag (like 2k cals worth) in less than 24hrs although I portioned them into 200cal bags. I had to throw out the other bag I bought just to prevent myself from going at it. What's funny is that I didn't even enjoy them as much. I like the Ghirardelli squares much better, especially the ones with almond slivers. I'm satisfied after 1 or 2.

Try making a big batch of cold brew coffee at home. I use like a cup or 2 of grounds in a huge pot, fill with water, let sit in fridge overnight, strain the next day into a pitcher and you'll have coffee for a while! Or you can cheat and buy cold brew coffee by the gallon at most grocery stores.0 -
Cheese. Me trying to eat cheese in moderation is like trying to limit how much air I breathe. A nice healthy salad with all sorts of veggies and minimal dressing? Great! OH IS THAT CHEESE?! Snack tray at a party or a meeting? OH IS THAT CHEESE?!
I've switched to pre-packaged servings of cheese so I can't "accidentally" have too much, or have "just a taste" when I'm packing my lunch. It costs a lot more, but I have no restraint.3 -

Does the place you get it offer sugar-free syrup? You would still have calories from the milk, but you can reduce the calories by switching syrups.1
