How everyone! I am very short (5'1) and not very athletic...when I jog/run my pace is around 3.5 mph but MFP slowest pace to log under urnning is 5! I dont even think I could run 5mph in my fittest times lol pretty sure thats a full on sprint for me...anyways..

how do I log this???

I'd log it as walking, brisk pace (and in fact when I first started running and was in the same boat, that's what I did). The calorie count is comparable.

if I fast walk at a 3.0-3.2mphish I wonder if I should just do that instead of running then? Because I feel like when comparing calories lost its not much a difference according to mfp its like 30 calories more at 3.5 for the same amount of time (and I hate running lol!) Ive never been a 'runner' even when I was 100 pounds.

    What do you think?

Do you have a fitness tracker that can sync with MFP? I am never sure of my speed when I walk/run but my apple watch or map my run will send MFP an average and log from there.

Look at the walking entries. I think that "brisk pace ( walking a dog)" is the 3.5 mph calorie burn. Don't be put off by it being categorized as "walking," because pace is pace.

I just go by the correct 'pace' also. I don't pay attention to whether it's listed as 'running' or 'walking'.

Another alternative is to just use a smart phone with MapMyRun.

I use a belt to carry my phone and use it for the MapMyRun and to listen to podcasts or music with bluetooth headphones. I also have the apple watch with it too, but phone will log your pace and routes without the watch too.

When I started running I did the same as Amyrebeccah and logged my runs as "brisk walking".

If you dislike running, perhaps walking is an option. Over time, you may find yourself running a short distance on your walks and slowly build up to running. Or not. It should be somewhat enjoyable to you.

It all depends on what your goals are. Over time, as your pace increases, you'll burn more calories when running. But if you don't enjoy it, it may not be worth it.

You can use the following calculation for calories burnt running:

bodyweight in pounds x 0.63 x distance in miles.

I used the Runkeeper app that calculated my calories burned pretty well automatically to MFP- it logged it at a faster pace than I was doing (I think because 5mph was the lowest it could go) but the calories fit the general guideline that TavistockToad listed so I didn't worry too much about it. But I don't run too much at the moment while I am recovering from a knee injury.

I also edit my calories burned pretty regularly so the activity I use to log my exercise is how I chose to describe the exercise I perform in MFP- and change the calories to fit my needs/goals (I am only eating 25-50% of my exercise calories back at the moment).
