Anyone have over 200 lbs to lose? It feels overwhelming. I keep telling my husband, I am not just a fat person - I am TWO fat people. Ugh. Anyway, I am 1 week in, down 3 lbs. I've always been overweight but I've still been active. At this weight I am getting winded walking to my car and I have pain in my back, knees, legs, everywhere. I gained 87 lbs in the last year to get to this point. I am hoping this is what rock bottom feels like. Anyone else in the same boat? Or close?

Hi Kristen - According to the charts, I need to lose about 200lbs, though I have set my goal at 150. I'm going to see how I feel once I get there. Oh my god the pain is horrible at this weight. It hurts just to stand up, much less go for a walk! This is my first week on MFP, but I started trying to lose a couple of months ago...so far I'm down 18lbs. I've noticed that keeping the food journal on here and talking to people going through the same thing is making it much easier to stick to than any time I've tried in the past. It is definitely overwhelming when I think about the amount of weight I need to lose, but I am trying to make myself just focus on every ten pounds. Every ten pounds is a goal...it seems to make it so much more obtainable. At least in MY mind.21

I had about that much to lose. I'm about 30kg (60lbs) down since January. My knees are so much better! The pain from arthritis was terrible. Now I'm walking freely.
Weight loss has slowed quite a bit over the last few weeks, but I'm moving more and feeling so so so so much better. Focus on 5lbs at a time. Celebrate your losses and enjoy the ride. We're in this for the long haul. Good luck!8 -
I had about 150 to lose so closeish to the 200 mark currently down 38lbs from end of Jan..

Feel free to add me as a friend. I have well over 100 pounds to lose. One day at a time and make small goals. Focus on the first 10, then make a non-scale goal. I walk 30 min a day, no distance or speed requirements. Other days, I plan a mileage amount and walk til I reach it no matter how long it takes. Baby steps, stay under your calories and realize it's all a journey, not a race.7

I don't have that much to lose, but I do understand how overwhelming it can seem sometimes. Anything that takes so long to do can seem overwhelming!
My favorite thing to tell myself when I think about how long it takes to lose weight is, "I'm going to be a year (or two, or three years) older, no matter what I do. I can do nothing and be fat, or I can make sustainable lifestyle changes and be a year older and also 50+ pounds lighter."

At my heaviest I was 325 lbs. I am now down to 219 lbs. I first lost 40 lbs and kept that off for about a year and then I lost 20 more and kept it off for about another year. I have now lost down to what I currently weigh and I keep at it everyday. I still have a ways to go but I feel so much better and I have my life back. So many things can be factors that lead us down the path to obesity. For me it was stress. I am a stress eater. I now have other outlets for my stress. I got to the point that I was so tired of worrying about my health and my heart that I made a promise that if my heart was ok that I would dedicate myself to getting the weight off! Well, all the test were great and I have remained focused. There is no option for me. I am not perfect and I struggle everyday because I do have a stressful job but when all is said and done, I trust in my faith to keep me focused and I can see the end goal down the road.

You can add me i have over 100 lbs to lose i lost 105 lbs a little over a year ago but gain over 60 lbs back due to surgery on my foot and on my knee and some family problems. so ive been around and may be able to give some good advice0

There's not a single person ever who has lost 200 lb in the first day, week, or month of a pleasant, fun, and downright empowering incremental process of experimenting with and adopting new habits which lead to days like I've had today, reaching a major weight milestone. I've been on this journey for almost 16 full months and have lost 102 lb as of today, having reached the top of my goal range. Had I paused to consider the year + of change, I'm practical enough to have recognized at the time, the time is going to pass anyway. The time is going to pass. Are you going to exist as a person willing to stay obese and die young? Or are you going to exist in this passage of time as one actually taking steps to live as a healthy person?8

Yea, when you have 100 plus to lose, we are talking a 1-3 yr journey. I think it helps to think of it as a permanent life style change rather than temporary dieting. Eventually we'll be able to eat at maintenance, but we can never go back to the old habits if we want the weight to stay off.5 -
I never had a set goal when I started two years ago and I still don't Since March/April 2015 I have lost about 200 lbs. It has truly only been challenging for me in the past month or so. I am pretty sure I need to lower my caloric intake to continue losing, but at this point I have not committed to that. I still eat "healthy" 90% of the time, but I also allow myself to have some foods that are not considered as healthy.
If you can conquer the mind, then everything else will fall in place. If I started out saying I have to lose 200 lbs, I do not know if I would have been as successful. Basically it comes down to having a plan that works, committing yourself to it and doing it. If you feel that you have messed up then do not be discouraged. Keep going. You can do it!!5 -

I have about 130 pounds to lose. I've started this journey several times, only to fall back into bad habits. This years started out pretty good, I lost 15 pounds fairly easily. Then my mother passed away suddenly/unexpectedly on 2/24 and I lost all motivation. I have pulled myself back up, dusted myself off, and am re-focused on the end goal. I am also fighting colon cancer for the 2nd time and I KNOW that a healthier lifestyle can only help. Reading these boards and keeping track of my food intake helps more than I ever thought it would. We can all do this!2

I have gone through what you are going through now. In January 2016, I was 378 Lbs and needed to lose 263 Lbs. I am now at 181 Lbs and have lost 197 Lbs to date. I still have about 67 left to lose. The way I have done this so far is to set mini goals for myself or the total is so large it would overwhelm me. One of those mini goals was to hit 189 Lbs which was the point when I was literally 1/2 my original body weight. It was so overwhelming when I realized that logically it would take me 2 to 2 2/12 years to lose to lose the weight that I almost stopped before I barely started. I did finally get my head on straight and have already accomplished more than I could have imagined I could. If you want to friend me, feel free. I will be on here through the end of weight loss journey and into maintenance. I am more than willing to help in any way I can.

I have gained more than 100 lbs, but that is not my failure, it is an opportunity to see what went wrong. I need to reassess my fitness with the help of a professional, and do it. No body does anything for you or me. I need to do it, and you need to do it, too. If I can do it, then I will crave for losing more weight. I will be discomforted, I will be disheartened, and I will be looked down, upon. I will be fighting it, though. without even a fight, how can I give up? How can I do anything without the motive to be better. How can I keep my dream alive? I must suppress the feeling of accomplishment as it will be my biggest enemy of growth.0

I started in January of this year at 260. I changed what and how much I ate. I joined the local gym and started moving more and I am currently down just over 85 lbs. I also was having issues with my back, knees and had even started noticing I was wheezing at night when I laid down to go to sleep. I wasn't sick... but I sure was wheezing. Knees still bother me some, but they are much better. Everything else has improved significantly.
You can do this! You can make it happen! You have to be determined and stay motivated and inspired. Take progress pictures starting NOW. Take a full body picture of yourself EVEN if you don't share it with anyone else... this is for you to compare your future pictures to. It is inspiring to see pictures of yourself when you can see the hard work that has paid off right before your eyes and a picture makes you see things more clearly.
Here is one of my most recent comparison pictures... It is doable! You can do it! You just have to convince your Mind of it first and then push forward.

Yes I had to lose 317 pounds and as of today I have lost 280 pounds. I use to belly dance, ballroom dance, swim, play miniature golf and bowl. I was very active despite weighing 320 pounds until I was injured by a drunk. He caused me to have 4 herniated discs, which resulted in spinal stenosis. Within 4 years of that injury I was basically bed ridden and when I did go to my 2 day a week job or shopping I had to use an electric mobility device. My weight sky rocketed to 497. I finally did something about it and it was the best thing I ever did. June 26th 2017 I had the first of 4 excess skin removal surgeries. Get your head into the right mind set, make little goals and reward yourself for getting to those goals. If I can go from this to this

106 lbs to lose. I don't even eat anything tasty ever so "cutting out" bad foods isn't going to be something I can do to lose weight just need to work out a lot and measure everything.0

I'm so glad to have found this I don't have 200 to lose but I do have 145 it's such a daunting task and my husband just doesn't understand he always tells me your not fat when I talk about it but I'm not saying it to be negative about myself I'm saying it cause its a fact. Trying to get back on track from my health problems need all the love and support I can get and feel free to add me as a friend to.0

I dont think it matter whether you have 50lbs or 500lbs we are all in the same boat. WE let bad eating habits rule our lives long enough. Mine is 25 years and at my max 235lbs meant I needed or should I say want to lose 55lbs.
The process is the same calories in calories out and increasing your activity. Is it easy NOPE. Can it be done YES!!!! look at those who have succeeded and tell yourself I can be just like them.0 -

I am 215 and my goal is 190. I don't want to set to high of a goal and get frustrated. I am bad at wanting to weigh myself everyday and then get upset when I see my weight fluctuate. Then I quit.0
