Eggs and cholesterol

Many nutrition regimens recommend eggs! I've seen as many as eating about three whole eggs almost every day for breakfast!! However, they are very high in cholesterol!! Plus all the chicken and protein I eat has a pretty decent amount on it too!Any thoughts on this!

    I doubt having saturated fat and trans fat has no affect on blood cholesterol

    You asked about the cholesterol in foods. They don't effect blood serum cholesterol levels in most people.

    Trans fats and some animal fats can raise it but eggs only contain 2.22gm of palmitic acid fats

    Cholesterol in foods does not cause high serum cholesterol levels. The research is now pretty clear on this point. Your body makes all the cholesterol you need. If you eat a lot of cholesterol in your food, your body will compensate by making less of it itself.

    I often eat 3 or 4 eggs a day and have lower than average cholesterol...my doctor calls my results "excellent". People with high cholesterol don't have it because of eating eggs.

    ETA: like with everything else, there are a few exceptions. Some people, specifically diabetics, are more sensitive to high levels of cholesterol in food. But for the majority of the population, they can eat their eggs and not worry.

    My cholesterol went down when I started eating at a deficit (and losing weight), and I eat a LOT of eggs.

    Awesome!! I guess it all depends on how well rounded your diet is too! I eat very clean throughout the day! I just diddnt know how eggs would effect my cholesterol! Because i know having high cholesterol is a serious issue! I'm 170lbs and 6ft tall so I'm not trying to lose any weight tho!

    I usually eat 3 eggs a day; my HDL was 85. That's anecdotal though.

    I am a vegan and have high cholesterol. My doctor told me only a very small percentage of a persons cholesterol is derived from the animal products in their diet

    Carbohydrates have a large impact on cholesterol and triglyceride levels, as does weight loss and exercise. Cholesterol and fats do not negatively affect it unless you have hypercholesterolemia, which is fairly rare.

    I follow a LCHF diet. Almost everyone I have seen who follows that diet has HDL go up, triglycerides go down, and LDL particles change to the healthier, larger size. LDL may go up a bit but since the particles sizes have improved, it is not an issue. It would be the equivalent of worrying over total cholesterol (a fairly useless test) when your HDL is at a healthy high level... Actually, that often happens with low carbers: total cholesterol goes up because HDL went up.

    IMO, cholesterol does not tell you much about heart health. Read Cholesterol Clarity, Great CHolesterol Myth, CHolesterol Con, or Peter Attia's blog series on cholesterol. Those sources explain it well.

    I agree with the consensus, and I too include eggs in my diet because I need the added protein. The egg/ cholesterol battle is a myth; it's all about your diet and exercise. So eat away and enjoy!

    I would seriously do some research on that statement too. It is not as clear cut as the statin sellers want you to believe. There is some truth to it but like everything else in life, "there's more to it".

    There are also an amazing amount of nutrients in egg yolks. All the B vitamins, a rich source of lutein and zeaxanthin, selenium, and eggs are one of the few foods that supply vitamin D. Make sure you eat the whole egg. They are amazing!
