Ever read stuff you wrote a long time ago? What did you think? What style writing do you do? Care to share?

    I like to write but I'm terrible at it.

    I looked back at some ragey emo angst stuff I wrote in my early teen years and at an old diary. God, I was tragic.

    Yes, some poetry. Most of it was shite with a couple of ok ones.

    I've been writing fanfiction for 14 years. My early stuff is definitely rougher. I'm also working on a novel now and the comparison between my first draft and my early fics is like day and night. (I would like to mention that I was 31 when I started posting fanfic online; but I had been taking a long break from creative writing prior.)

    Also, I have a couple of journals I had to write in high school. Rereading them is like stepping into a time machine. I'm 'magically' 16 and 17 again. It's not great writing, but it's real and raw.

    My wife still has the reams of letters I wrote to woo her when we were young. I fear to see them again.

    my writing is poor although i like to re-read it and play spot the cliché. I never write anything romantic or smutty, its just not in my nature.

    That's so fun! I proposed to my wife by writing her a bunch of letters and then the first letter of each letter spelled out will you marry me

    On the subject, I made the mistake of looking up my old Fanfiction.net account and finding the old fanfic I wrote when I was sixteen. It.. did not hold up well.

    On the other hand, old poems and short writings I wrote for advanced English held up ridiculously well and I find them not unpleasant to reread. Sad thing is, I don't really enjoy writing as I am a visual artist. I much rather enjoy reading the stories and imagination of others than my own. :)

    I've been a fanfiction writer for over 15 years and yes, reading some of my older stuff is cringeworthy but at the same time it's awesome to see how far I've come. I also keep a personal journal and have been doing so since I was a kid. That's also a good way to track your personal progress if you ever feel stuck.

    Also, since a few people mentioned being fanfic writers...any of you write in the Marvel / Evanstan fandom? If so - and if you want - hit my inbox with links to your work on AO3 or elsewhere. :)

    I've written some Daredevil. http://archiveofourown.org/users/Dragonbat/works I also do Bat-family (there's a Batman-Daredevil crossover near the top of of the list), OUAT, and occasionally delve into other fandoms, usually for a fic exchange or fandom auction.
