The sugar monster!!

does anyone else get severe sugar cravings? I'm only at this two weeks and some days I'm good, I can survive with a bit of sugar but today the sugar monster attacked with a vengeance!! I've eaten a full bar of chocolate, half a packet of crisps (I made a point of throwing the rest in the bin!) and a low fat chocolate bar.

I've re-read my diary and every day I go over my sugar allowance! Even though I've cut down calories and fat my sugar levels in my food are sky high!

I do suffer from headaches and feeling faint if I don't eat sugar and I know that's probably due to years of having such a sweet tooth. I'd love to reduce my sugar without suffering and I'll take any advice. Good, bad or indifferent!

Go with fruit for the sweet cravings, it's far better for you.

The headaches ARE from the sugar craving - it's an addiction. And I recently read a report about the effects of sugar on the brain. It's basically the same as crack. My advice is to quit the sugar. And it will suck - BAD. But fight through it and get off the stuff. You'll be better off and you'll notice a change in your body too.

Oh Im a sugar fanatic and I had the worse headaches last week, but once you get through the hump, you'll find it's easier to avoid them and not crave them as bad. You'll also find that your taste buds change a little and things start tasting better....or at least it happened to me liek that!

it can take as long as two or three weeks of NO SUGAR(the nice white kind, not fruits) before you have it out of your system and every time you indulge will set you back to zero. Once you get through quitting it you won't want it and will actually find it way too sweet for you. Well, at least I did, hope youget the same results.

The more sugar you eat the more you crave. Stick with the natural sugar in fruits.

I get that craving from time to time and to satisfy it, I eat fruit. I sit at a desk for 8 hrs a day, so I keep a lot of fruit close at hand..it really does help curb that craving for sweets

I am totally with you! I can substitute healthy food all day long but I just can't get over the sweets! And I don't know about you, but fruit just ain't cuttin it when you want chocolate! I've tried to eat some of the so-called healthier desserts but they're typically so little and light tasting that I just want more and more. It seriously is like an addiction.

I make note of a couple things in my diary, and cravings and headaches are part of that. I'm noticing that they are worst when the hormones are in flux.

Using fruit for the sugar cravings is a great idea. I also chew sugarless gum to help get past the cravings. I can't put anything else in my mouth when I'm chewing gum...and I don't like gum much, but it does help.

I also find that eating something - even if it's just a light snack - at least once every three hours helps with the cravings.

I also keep a bowl of Dove Dark candies on hand. I never eat more than two a day, but sometimes when the chocolate craving strikes, letting one of those melt slowly in my mouth is incredibly satisfying, and at 42 calories apiece, a reasonable indulgence.

yes! its tougher than quitting smoking! I have severe sugar cravings and after much research have found I have CRC- candida overgrowth-- common in America, common in those with sweet tooth! I havnt ground a sugar craving cure yet- good luck!- and ps- the fruit trick helps but is not an end all - at least not for me....what other suggestions do you all have?

If fruit doesn't do it, a high cocoa content dark chocolate shouldn't be too terribly bad.
