Just got my kitchen scale. ROFL!! I was SO off!

No wonder I wasn't losing anything! I measured out morning smoothie, exactly as I'd been estimating (using a measuring cup). It came to about HALF of what I have been making!

I only started tracking on MFP because I was an injured long distance runner and felt like I could stand to lose 10 pounds or so. I shouldn't need a food scale for my situation, right? Wrong! After the first few pounds dropped away, it truly came down to weighing what I was eating in order to get to a lean and healthy weight for me. I ended up losing a total of ~25 pounds and have been maintaining for 1-1/2 years. The scale purchase was well worth it!

When i go back and look at the first few months of my food logging when i first started here (before i got a food scale), i just shake me head. Aye aye aye.. It was so not accurate6

I've used my scale from day 1 of logging and I find I'm surprised at how much more I can eat based on weight than I thought I could. I'd break off a chunk of butter to put on my sweet potatoes and think it was a full tbsp only to find out it weighs 10 or 11 grams and I get to add even more!!!6

Yeah it is eye opening. I was kicking myself for not accurately 100% using mine even though I owned it for a few years. The good news? I lost 6 pounds the first month using it!4

Exactly!!! I found I was underestimating carbs and fats(rice, pasta, cheese) and over estimating my proteins.
The scale weight is what it is and takes everything else out of the equation.

Yes! And then you can start to to learn what an ounce of chicken or peanut butter (or whatever) looks and feels like. Makes you more aware.1 -

I tend to be like that, too...I can eat a lot more when I weigh things out. It's nice.2 -
For real... when I started properly measuring my "two tablespoons" of peanut butter and learned it was more like 4.5 tablespoons I almost had a heart attack.5

I have a food scale at home, and one at work. And when I recently had a friend who got serious about calorie counting, I got her a food scale as a gift. Very useful...1

It gave me the confidence to start eating pasta. Before hand I would never risk it.1

This is my experience as well. I still don't eat the entire quantity, I'm just adding fewer calories to my daily total.0
