6 months Heavy Lifting.

So here we are. I've been lifting heavy weights for about 6 months now. My starting weight was 173 and the second photo is 147. I still have a long way to go but I'm getting there. I have been working really hard and eating tons of food. It's actually been kinda fun and not torture as usual. (My usual was like 1000 cals and cardio. BOOO) can't wait to see 9 months and a year and what I'll look like.

Very impressive, whatever you do, keep doing it! Out of curiousity, what is your lifting regimen and what your progression's been like ?4

Thank you for this i want to get into heavy lifting and I loved seeing this post !2

@newdawn1974 I lift heavy 3 days a week and workout at home 3 days a week.
I do a leg day, an upper body day, and a compound lift day.
At home I do abs and HIIT cardio, a full body strength training with dumbells at home, and another ab day.
When I first started I only worked out 3 days a week at the gym as heavy as I could lift (which wasn't much) and slowly added in more and more. If you're new I would focus on your heavy compound lifts squats, deadlifts, overhead presses, chest press stuff like that. But that's just my opinion. My progress has been pretty steady6 -
Holy smokes, b e a u t i f u l progress! You look fabulous and strong and just made me so very eager to get into the heavy lifting business (I will, once I can afford the gym, that's for sure!)1

Do you do only one day of hiit? Great job!!!!1

Scale numbers down, max rep numbers up. Great work. Keep crushin it!1

@alkight84 I hate cardio and it's not strictly necessary to do all the time especially if trying to build strength1

@PartyKardy You look great!!!1

Good job!!! Looking good. YOU HAVE A THIGH GAP!!!! YAY!
This makes me so incredibly sad......praising a phenomenon that is primarily due to genetic disposition/bone structure or extreme dieting.
@PartyKardy Congrats on the huge muscle gains, fueling yourself properly & enjoying what you are doing! The grass is in fact greener on the heavy lifting side12 -
nice !1

I feel the poster referencing the "thigh gap"... I like it too when it's accompanied by nice, strong shapely legs... not unlike appreciating a small and shapely waist line, an hourglass figure, a "shelf"etc, attributes that not everyone has (or can get) but still can be appreciated.... yes I have a gap as well, with strong shapely legs.. no undereating here, that's for sure. lol3

You look fantastic!!! I'm all about weights and food vs hungry cardio1

Amazing. Just amazing!1

I want to get into heavy lifting. It's something I never thought I'd say about myself maybe 6 months ago but posts like this have inspired me and I want to be strong like the rest of you! Thanks for posting.0

@venuscaelestis you should get into it! It's much more fun than Cardio in my opinion and it will change your body in ways cardio just can't!3

Woohoo! I just started lifting last week and I hope to have a success story to share 6 months from now! Thank you so much for the inspiration! Did you go directly to free weights or did you start with nautilus?2

Wow! Amazing! I haven't seen that much change myself in many more months.1
-
@christinedlg50 I went straight for free weights lifting as heavy as I could (which wasn't much haha)1

Glad to see you lifting heavy, PartyKardy. Keep up the good work! Are you weight lifting, power lifting or doing bodybuilding exercises? I am in my 4th month of a power lifting program. Not only do I feel stronger, but also my stress level is way down AND I'm sleeping better. Let me know what other positive things you've experiencd since taking uplifting. All the best, avietvet (Stefano)0

I have just recently started lifting weights. I'm 49 yrs old, 5'4" SW164.5 (most I've weighed since being pregnant). My calorie intake is 1380 and I am so full all the time! All the protein I am eating is keeping me full. Seeing your pictures are wonderful. What a great transformation you have done! I hope to be there soon. I am alternating upper and lower body 5 days a week.
You are looking great! Keep up the good work.0 -
@wendysstorm make sure you're eating enough food. That sounds really low and you don't wanna slow your metabolism down. Plus you won't be seeing much strength progress if you aren't eating enough nutrition!1

How much calories are you eating since doing the strength training0

You look great!
I learned about lifting here on MFP. Never considered it before in my life. But i was told that, especially with my insulin resistance, lifting heavy was the ticket. So I started about 1/3 into my journey. It's been 11 months since I joined the gym, lost 80 more lbs and am a ton stronger. I think it also helped my skin not hang as bad as it could have. But most importantly, one by one I'm getting pulled off each med I was on and all my blood values are completely normal. I'm totally sold on lifting heavy.
My regimen is similar to yours--6 days/wk: HIIT, SS Cardio, Abs, Chest/Triceps, Back/Biceps, Legs/Shoulders. I was on 1200 cal for about 8 months of that, but am now on 1450, plus eating back 1/2 exercise cals.

@jdbmom I started out at 2200 calories and have SLOWLY lowered my calories so now I'm at 1800. I fully plan to reverse diet back up once I'm done dieting down.0
