Eating before a run

I usually do a 6 mile jog/run at 8 am on Saturday mornings. Tomorrow I have an engagement with my family at 10 so I will have to postpone the run until later in the day (I always work out in the mornings and eat 1/2 of a Think Thin protein bar 30 minutes before I go). We'll be eating lunch at a Greek restaurant at 11:30 am.

What would be the best type of meal to eat since I'll be running later (about 2 pm?)? Chicken and veggies? Fish? Some kind of bread? Should I run later than that? I would be so grateful for any advice. I'm out of my element for this, and I might not worry about it so much, but tomorrow night is date night for me and my husband at a good restaurant so I NEED to burn some calories if I'd like to eat a good meal later!!

Please help! :)

Seriously, can anyone help me with this? I'd really appreciate the advice!
  • Last fall my in-laws were visiting, which meant eating out at every meal (awesome, no cooking!). So, we went to lunch around noon and I had a GIANT margarita, salad, chili, baked potato...little bit of everything. Well, kids went down for a nap before 2pm so I figured I should sneak in a run while husband and kids were napping and in-laws were at their hotel (another awesome thing they do when they come visit!)....went out the door with the dog figuring I'd do an easy 2 miles because everything I had to eat/drink. I had the best run I had had in a long time! I went 5 hard miles, no problem. I was outrunning the dog, and that dog has more energy than any dog I've ever met. SOOooo....just go for it!
  • As for your "thighs don't touch" goal...I'm "underweight" BMI and my thighs still touch :(

A kebab w/ some rice. Would be good.

Thank you both so much for the advice :) I had half of a grilled vegetable pita and lots of water. I ran about 2 hours after eating and only got a mile before my body said, "Nope. Not today." I found it hard to breathe, I'm not sure if it was because I'm used to working out first thing in the morning. But, I hopped on the stairmaster for 65 minutes and had a GREAT workout!

After a little performance anxiety, I ran my 6 miles this morning, back in the saddle again :)

Yeah, I'd love it if my thighs stopped touching, but I'm not holding my breath ;)
