I have been gradually working my way up to being able to do "real" pushups. At last I am there! I haven't been able to do these since I was in my 20's back in the Stone Age. Feels good.

Persist!

Rock and roll! Push-ups were my nemesis, too. Feels awesome to conquer them!

nice. it's terrific when all those little nickels and dimes of effort add up to a milestone like this.

How? Well I work out at home using dumbbells and bodyweight. I started with dumbbell bench presses, and when I ran out of weights at 80 lbs I switched to doing bodyweight pushups in a stairwell. Feet on the floor, hands on the fourth step. Then I worked my way down to the floor a step at a time.
I also did a ton of planks. Core strength has as much to do with pushup success as chest/arms.

Indeed... A good pushup starts from the toes, just like a good plank

I totally agree with you congratulations on your persistence it's just a matter of taking one step at a time 2 years ago I couldn't do one pushup period started with wall push-ups then progressed to couch push ups then knee push ups now I could crank out a shitload of push ups. My next goal is one-handed push-ups I did those when I was 17 or 18 years old and I'm looking forward to doing them again. Once again congratulations on your persistence and success
